Tedia Company, Inc. is Hiring an Occupational Health & Safety Specialist Near Fairfield, OH

Position Summary:

Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control harm, injury, property damage caused by chemical, physical, biological agents or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to policy, laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals. 

Essential Duties:

  • Compliance Management
  1. PSM Auditing and Compliance Gap Identification
  2. Create/assist in creation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHA)
  3. Create/review Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)
  4. Evaluate Routine and Non-Routine Operations for safety and environmental hazards
  5. Identify and correct potential safety and environmental hazards by inspecting and documenting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment
  6. Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and processes
  • Daily Safety Observations
  1. Monitor and observe daily work practices for safe behavior while working with workers, supervisors, and managers to correct safety issues as quickly as possible.
  2. Ensure all completed safety checklists and reports are properly recorded and maintained by the assigned EHS Technician. 
  3. Look for trends in safety observations and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Accident and Incident Reporting
  1. Participate in investigations as requested by lead investigator and management.
  2. Assist the EHS Manager in reviewing accident/incident log and look for trends in safety behavior. 
  • Air Monitoring
  1. Review/analyze air monitoring values and look for trends in air quality and make recommendations for improvements.
  2. Monitor and observe exposure to highly hazardous materials as required in Tedia safety procedures.
  3. Preparing periodic air quality reports and maintain records.
  4. Ensure all air monitoring and exposure devices are kept in proper calibration and powered for emergency use. 
  • Safe Work Permitting
  1. Prepare hot work and confined space portions of Tedia’s Safe Work Permit.
  2. Perform required observation and air monitoring for hot work and confined space entry.
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  1. Make recommendations to the EHS for selecting correct PPE for Tedia hazards and working conditions.
  2. Monitor PPE stock levels to ensure adequate supplies are on hand.
  3. Interact with other employees to determine PPE needs and preferences and work with management to implement any changes.
  • Respiratory Protection Program
  1. Maintain respiratory protection equipment storage area and ensure adequate supplies are on hand.
  2. Identify respiratory protection items that need to be replaced and reorder to ensure availability.
  3. Perform fit testing for employees that have been approved to wear respirators.
  4. Conduct periodic respirator training and maintenance activities with all employees assigned a respirator.
  • Safety Training and Safety Meetings.
  1. Assist in the development of procedures for safe work practices.
  2. Participate in new-employee orientations as it relates to EH&S
  3. Prepare materials and present safety training as directed.
  • Waste Management
  1. Assist in preparing hazardous material for final disposition. 
  2. Communicate with waste technician, other departments, and waste vendors allowing for streamlined disposition of materials.
  • Storm water Management
  1. Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual storm water inspections and reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Success Criteria:

  • Tedia achieves goals set for Accident TRR and LTI’s
  • No late Incident investigations
  • Regulatory and compliance reporting is up to date
  • No overdue training for employees as it relates to EH&S-led trainings

Supervisory Responsibility:

N/A

Required Education and Experience:

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and ability to perform calculations for annual reports is a plus.

  • Stooping, bending, twisting, climbing ladders and/or stairs required
  • Must be able to lift to 70 lbs. on an intermittent basis
  • Must be able to wear a respirator
  • Must be able to stand to work for up to two hours at a time
  • Ability to be available after normal working hours
  • Must be able to wear chemical protective clothing when physically handling a variety of solvents and corrosives. 
  • Qualify to operate an industrial lift truck.
8 AM - 4 PM or 9 AM to 5 PM
