Job Description
The City of Burlington's Recreation & Parks Department is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Summer Day Camp Counselor.
The Camp Counselor is responsible for overall day-to-day group programming, keeping the participants safe while having fun, and assisting directors and fellow counselors with daily housekeeping duties.
The counselor’s responsibilities include always displaying positive leadership and guidance to the children. A positive rapport between children, parents, and staff needs to be maintained when dealing with behavioral conflicts and the daily operation of the program.
Treat children equally and be consistent with discipline. Safety among children and staff is always a top priority, be sure to adhere to the City’s safety policies.
This position also has the potential to encompass being year-round with afterschool care.
Examples of Duties
Assist the Directors at the camp site to plan, develop, modify, and implement camp activities.
The Camp Counselor is responsible for overall day-to-day group programing, discipline, direct supervision, and management of children in the Summer Camp Program.
Supervise a group of approximately 15 children between the ages of 6-14.
Plan, organize, and implement a daily schedule of activities including crafts, sports, games, wellness, etc.
Collects data for daily reports and maintains records and reports.
Assists with set-up and breakdown of activities and daily housekeeping at the site.
Maintain positive and appropriate relations with children, staff, parents, etc.
Attend and participant in program activities, staff meetings, staff trainings, etc.
Be enthusiastic and make the camp a safe and fun place for the community.
Qualifications
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualificatio ns :
Ideal candidates should possess great communication skills to ensure the highest level of customer service and have knowledge of safe work practices.
Outgoing and positive attitude.
Dependable and trustworthy.
Previous experience working with children is desired.
Reliable transportation
First Aid / CPR certification are desired.
