Byrne Dairy is Hiring a Filler operator Near East Syracuse, NY

The Aseptic Filler Operator is responsible for completing assigned production duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction.

The Aseptic Filler Operator does this by cleaning and operating Tetra Pak’s aseptic primary filling equipment in a manner that ensures its optimal performance.

The Aseptic Filler Operator must also ensure that all GMP, SOP, HACCP, and Food Safety requirements are satisfied at all times.

The Aseptic Filler Operator completes these functions in the support of the manufacture of dairy and non-dairy products.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Set up, clean, sterilize, operate, and monitor aseptic filling equipment using standard operating procedures.
  • Set up, shut down, and clean ancillary equipment such as Domino printer and check weigh systems.
  • Operate and monitor equipment while completing all required documentation and scheduled quality checks.
  • Ensure machine is supplied with sufficient raw materials to complete daily production orders. In addition, ensure all raw materials used to make finished good inventory are properly scanned in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Load reels of packaging material into machine using heavy lift equipment. Ensure that the correct packaging materials are being used for product being produced.
  • Monitor systems using human machine interface (HMI) screens and react accordingly to all status displays and alarms.
  • Perform intricate system checks on filler and its subsystems. Log results and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Conduct packaging integrity tests using established procedures. Take corrective action in the event of out-of-specification packaging materials.
  • Monitor and maintain supply of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to filling equipment to ensure articles of production are sterile.
  • Monitor your assigned equipment for quality of production. Notify Operations Manager or designate of problems.
  • Track and document equipment downtime using Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) log.
  • Complete cleaning checklist once line has completed production orders and prepare equipment for next production run.
  • Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of immediate area. Use personal protective equipment when handling chemicals.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment in accordance with established procedures. Utilize equipment manuals, in-house resources, and online resources to troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Multi-task, prioritize, and manage work without extensive supervision.
  • Effectively communicate with production supervisor and processing department to resolve daily production problems.
  • Assess, escalate, and communicate to management, in a timely manner, any known issues that may adversely affect production, quality, and / or safety.
  • Understand how to use Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures and do so when necessary and appropriate.
  • Use, apply, and adhere to 5s standards in your work area.
  • Promote a continuous improvement environment by supporting and completing daily tasks as assigned by management.
  • Promote and provide excellent customer service with all internal and external customers.
  • Promote a safe and harmonious work environment and adherence to company policy and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with S.Q.F. certification.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Essential Knowledge, Skills :

  • Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and knowledge of weights and measure, to sufficiently handle job tasks.
  • Read, write, and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (Other preferences will be given for special language skills when there is a business need).
  • Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and your role in achieving each of them.
  • Ability to operate facility equipment as required in assigned area.
  • Ability to work within a precision team of highly trained individuals
  • Ability to identify what needs to be done and take action before being asked.
  • Ability to have attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks.
  • Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements.
  • Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC / code information.

Education / Experience :

  • GED or High School Diploma is preferred
  • 1 year or more experience in manufacturing
  • Attend a company-organized Better Process Control School (BPCS) and receive a BPCS certificate

  • Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management, including the ability to prioritize workload and coordinate break times to ensure continuous operation of assigned equipment.
  • Responsible for reporting to work, at scheduled times, in a condition to perform duties.
  • Responsible for being well-groomed and dressed in assigned uniform at all times.
  • Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
  • Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern.
  • Expected to immediately report equipment / tool / building damage to plant leadership.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities, including paperwork which must be completed before shift change and verbally communicated to oncoming operator.

Work Schedule :

  • Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on assigned shift.
  • Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day must be approved in advance by Manager.
  • Hourly : Generally scheduled for 36-48 hours (12 hour shifts); more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.

Environmental Concerns :

  • Normally protected from weather and temperature changes; possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens
  • May be exposed to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.

Physical Job Requirements :

Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments.

Including the outside perimeter of the building.

  • Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
  • Stand and / or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
  • Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.

  • The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets;

experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $24.50 to $28.50.
