ANNOUNCEMENT:Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for the full-time administrative, grant-funded position of Student Service Specialist.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, this is an administrative position that requires the Student Services Specialist to assist students with the development of their academic interests and the successful completion of their degree program or certificate within the College. This position is responsible for maintaining specific knowledge and providing assistance in the areas of advising, financial aid, registration, recruitment, career counseling and other various student services. This position requires knowledge of the College’s student information system and the ability to both directly provide student services and to coordinate with other partners for student success. The Student Service Specialist is responsible for developing and monitoring individualized plans for students. The Student Service Specialist may be assigned to locations within the district dependent upon needs of serving students. This is a full-time, grant-funded administrative position and is dependent upon the continued receipt of external funding.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline is required.

2. Master’s degree in an appropriate area is desirable.

3. Experience in higher education preferred.

4. Ability to assimilate extensive knowledge of academic programs, policies and requirements and communicate that information to students.

5. Ability to relate well and establish rapport with students, administrators, other academic advisors and counselors, teaching faculty, parents and community.

6. Excellent customer service, organizational and analytical skills.

7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

8. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and PeopleSoft preferred.

9. A valid driver’s license is required.

10. Must successfully pass a criminal background check prior to hire.

SALARY: Grade 1 on the Administrative Salary Scale, ranging from $33,750 to $40,500 per year.
