Job Title: Outside Operations Manager
Department: Operations
Reports To: General Manager/Executive Director
Status: Full Time- Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
Managers are responsible for executing Detroit Mountain’s Guiding Principles and Priorities in the day to day management of staff and operational functions. Using an eye for detail and a passion for providing excellent internal and external customer service, the Outside Operations Manager will model safety, friendliness, appearance, and efficiency in order to create a world class experience for all Detroit Mountain Recreation Area guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
● Supervises outside operations department supervisors, staff and volunteer patrol (Chair Lifts, Facility and Groundskeeping, Snowmaking, Tubing Park, Terrain Park and Patrol).
● Interviewing, hiring and training of all staff with support from Department Supervisors.
● Training and education for all areas, working closely with other departments to create a collaborative training environment for all staff regardless of position.
● Scheduling for Outside Manager on Duty and other areas as needed.
● Providing feedback and support to all personnel, including coaching, corrective action and terminations.
● Respond quickly to all needs that arise and communicate effectively with the General Manager/Executive Director.
● Maintain strong communication and collaboration with all departments via email or department meetings. ● Ensure that staff adhere to safety standards and are both professional and productive.
● Resolves high level issues while providing the best guest experience possible.
● Manage operating and capital expense budget as it relates to outside operations.
● Direct seasonal snowmaking and snow grooming plan in partnership with the General Manager and Maintenance Manager.
● Implement and maintain a risk management plan in accordance with General Liability Insurance carrier and ANSI B.77 requirements.
● Direct upkeep and maintenance of facility and grounds.
● Documentation of all training, operational logs, and incident reports.
● Assist Maintenance Manager with seasonal and special projects,repair and maintenance of lifts and equipment snowmaking and grooming.
● Delegate and assess current and future projects, making decisions with the General Manager to continue to grow the business while developing and supporting the Non-Profit mission.
● Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, friendly, personable and comfortable working with people. ● Strong conflict resolution skills and a desire to work in the ski and recreation industry.
● Excellent organizational and observation skills
● Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings, holidays and weekends. ● Enjoy working in a fast paced and ever changing environment.
● Strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills.
● Ability to interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers and management. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
● Must be physically able to be on feet for extended periods of time: stand for long periods of time. ● Must be able to handle exposure to inclement weather.
● Must be able to bend, lift, and twist repeatedly.
● Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
● Experience working in the ski, amusement, or recreation industry in a supervisory position.
● Strong computer skills able to work with all programs including but not limited to word, excel, google suite. ● Experience operating tracked equipment and recreational vehicles.
● Must have a valid driver’s license.
