POSITION SUMMARY

The Paralegal will assist attorney(s) by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation and review; scheduling meeting(s); research, investigations, and fact checking; and hearing/trial preparation. Position will also provide additional administrative support as needed. Position will report directly to the Chief Compliance Officer and will be primarily located in the Darlington office, however there will be some travel required to the Columbia location and other site(s).

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Achieve Results

Provide paralegal and administrative assistance to ensure daily duties are carried out and business efficiency is maintained.

Provide assistance and clerical support for Chief Compliance Officer and other staff attorneys.

Operational Excellence

Ensure and uphold the confidentially requirements of all patient records and manage all daily task and activities consistent with HIPAA, state and federal laws and regulations, as well as the organizations policies and regulations regarding confidentiality and security.

Relationships

Develop and ensure effective, positive relationships within and among all the staff, as well as with patients, vendors, contractors, and related resources.

Professionalism

Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.

6. Uphold and ensure compliance with and attention to all corporate policies and procedures, as well as the mission and values of the organization.

PRIMARY TASKS & DUTIES

1. Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss cases and/or projects.

2. Drafts legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, and affidavits; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.

3. Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.

4. Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.

5. Assists attorneys with trial preparation and other case preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.

6. Prepare correspondence and process all mail received.

7. Assist with creating reports needed for Board/Provider/QI/Community related meetings.

8. Maintain and organize administrative files in Darlington and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards (as applicable).

9. Answer telephone, schedule meetings, respond to inquiries and relay information appropriately and timely.

10. Attend organizational meetings, prepare agendas and meeting minutes (as required)

11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

1. Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or related field required

2. Paralegal certificate required.

3. Related experience required.

Professional

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

2. Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.

3. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

4. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

5. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

7. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

8. Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.

9. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Physical/Environmental

Ability to interact with computer screen for up to six hours at a time (visual acuity required).

Must have manual dexterity for use of keyboard. Ability to remain stationary for periods of up to four hours. Ability to communicate via phone, mail and in person to resolve disputes, solve problems, etc.
