The Family Place is Hiring a Teachers Assistant Near Dallas, TX

Position Summary: Provides and maintains an open, loving, cooperative, safe, nurturing environment that promotes learning while supervising children. The Teachers Assistant should have an instinctive love for this stage of development, and the ability to assist children with their most personal needs such as toileting, washing, and dressing. The Teachers Assistant must possess the ability to support the Lead Teacher in curriculum planning and implementation.
Consistent attendance is important to the students and the functioning of the classroom. The Teachers Assistant is expected to follow attendance policies and procedures established by The Family Place for the Child Development Center, as to ensure minimal disruption to day-to-day activities in the classroom.
Key ResponsibilitiesCLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:
  • Follows and facilitates lesson plans created, collaboratively, with the Lead Teacher; and engages with the students during day-to-day instruction to meet the needs of each child in the classroom.
  • Maintains classroom structure by following the Frog Street curriculum according to the specifics provided by The Family Place and the Child Development Center.
  • Assists with children that may have trouble grasping curriculum concepts.
  • Sterilizes bottles and prepare formulas; changes diapers, assists in toileting, i.e. potty training, keeping their face/noses clean, shoes tied, clothes changed, if dirty.
  • Supervises and guides children during mealtime, toileting, hand washing, rest periods and play activities.
  • Keeps the supplies and classroom neat and orderly and maintains a clean and sanitary classroom; organizes and labels materials in a manner that is appropriate for their age and perceptual abilities; sanitizes toys and play equipment.
  • Communicates with the children using language and a tone of voice that is nurturing, kind, and respectful.
  • Promotes feelings of security and trust in the children by encouraging and supporting them during day-to-day activities.
Professional Development
  • Participates in all staff development activities, in-service trainings, and workshops.
  • Completes 24 clock hours of pre-service training as required by child-care licensing by completing 8 hours before working with children and 16 additional hours within 90 days of employment.
  • Completes 30 clock hours of annual training as required by care-care licensing and NECPA (National Early Childhood Education Program) and completes the training within 12 months of employment and as directed/required by the Program Director.
  • Completes 2 hours of annual transportation safety training by completing the following classes:
    • Defensive Driving training class in LMS (learning management system), before driving agency vehicles.
    • 15-passenger van safety training class in LMS (learning management system), before driving agency vehicles.
  • Maintains current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.
Administration
  • Follows and adheres to the Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards, Educational First Steps requirements and the National Accreditation Commission requirements in the classroom.
  • Consults with the Lead Teacher about concerns/problems with the children before talking to the parents.
  • Communicates professionally with the parents, discussing their childs day-to-day interactions, as well as any accidents and/or incidents that may have occurred.
  • Assists the Lead Teacher in completing assessments and observations of the children.
  • Assists in record-keeping and data entry as assigned.
  • Sets up and prepares audio visual equipment, handouts and other material for classroom presentations or other learning experiences.
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance necessary to keep the classroom and common spaces clean, sanitized, and safe.
  • Performs routine clerical duties such as filling, copying, answering phones and managing the CDC front desk.Maintains a positive work environment among all staff that is professional, kind, and inclusive.
  • Ensures continuity of care for children by sharing with incoming teachers information about each childs activities during the previous shift and any verbal or written instructions given by the parent.
  • Assumes the temporary duties of the Lead Teacher in their absence.
Other Duties: Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma/GED and has at least six (6) credit training hours in early childhood education or early childhood development and (6) six months experience as a teacher.
ORHigh School Diploma/GED and has three (3) credit training hours in early childhood development and (1) one year of experience as a teacher.
ORA national competency-based credential such as the CDA (Child Development Associate) and (1) one year of experience as a teacher.
Licenses: Maintains a valid, current and clear Texas Drivers License.
Certifications
  • Current Pediatric CPR or completed within 90 days of employment.
  • Current Pediatric First Aid with Rescue Breathing or completed within 90 days of employment.
  • Clear TB skin test.
Knowledge And Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Texas DFPS guidelines for daycare centers and NAC accreditation standards.
  • Knowledge of domestic/family violence and the effects on children and families.
  • Ability to successfully pass required Texas DFPS criminal history background check.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with children, co-workers and parents.
  • Ability to interact with children of all ages in a warm, calm and unhurried way.
  • Ability to manage the classroom and ensure the children/students are in control and safe from harm.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and present material for a classroom.
  • Ability to safely drive a Family Place vehicle to field trips, etc.
  • Supervises children/students at all times and follows licensing guidelines to ensure the safety of the children
Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; Visual acuity is required for child supervision. Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting light to medium is required. Ability to stand and walk for long periods at a time is required, as well as, the ability to run and be able to participate in outside activities.
Working Conditions: Ability to work in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the Teachers Assistant will have to supervise all children at all times; may experience smells associated with toileting and children who are ill. Work may be performed, but is not limited to a classroom environment.
