Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Cook to join our team. The Assistant Cook will support the Head Cook in the preparation and cooking of meals, as well as other kitchen duties for our assisted living facility. This may include prepping ingredients, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, plating and garnishing meals, checking food temperatures, and ensuring that all food is served in a safe and timely manner throughout the day. 

The Assistant Cook also ensures that the kitchen is kept clean and organized, and that all food hygiene regulations are adhered to in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by the Head Cook and the Assisted Living Manager. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized and able to multitask.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Cook with food preparation and cooking of menu items.
• Prepares foods according to prescribed sanitation standards, standardized recipes, using standard portion sizes.
• Keep inventories of cold foods, and list foods to be ordered.
• Perform cleaning duties such as washing dishes, wiping counters and cleaning kitchen areas.
• Ensure food safety and hygiene regulations are adhered to.
• Receive and store food items according to safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Monitor food temperatures and quality throughout the cooking process.
• Ensure the kitchen is properly stocked with necessary items.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Arizona Food Handlers Sanitation card.
• Two years in institutional cooking experience required.
• Course in food production, sanitation, and safety preferred.
• Vocational or technical education desirable.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
• Must understand, speak, read and write fluent English.
• Must be able to follow instructions and adhere to food safety guidelines.
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment and tools.
• Ability to work well in a team.
• Ability to take direction and follow instructions.
• High level of hygiene and organization.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Good communication and people skills.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. 

Schedule: Three days a week, 32-36 hour per week, weekends
