Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County is Hiring a Child Care Specialist Near Costa Mesa, CA

REPORTS TO: Children’s Program Coordinator, Director of Programs and Services

SUPERVISES: Volunteer and/or Support Personnel

HOURLY: $16 an hour (8-12 hours a week, with potential for additional hours)

This is an In-Person Position

Summary

The Children’s Program Specialist is responsible for supervising and caring for the children of attendees during our Program Night and other events of the Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County, as well as supporting the overall program needs, such as assigning in further program development, and maintaining relationships with members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Day of Program Responsibilities

  1. Prepare the childcare room prior to children's arrival, ensuring a safe environment by removing any potential hazards. Set up arts and crafts supplies, videos, snacks, and sign-in sheets. Monitor the air conditioning for comfort. Instruct parents to sign in their children as they arrive. Make sure parents have filled out a release form for their children and understand the childcare procedures.
  2. Welcome and provide guidance to volunteers regarding their assigned duties in assisting with childcare.
  3. Instruct parents to sign in their children upon arrival and ensure they complete required release forms and understand childcare procedures.
  4. Familiarize yourself with program agenda, purpose, and theme.
  5. Ensure each attendee has a meaningful, neurotypical, and amazingly fun experience in Friday Friends Club. We want them to see, feel, and experience an environment where they are a priority.
  6. Build relationships with parents and children.
  7. Direct purposeful play activities and supervise children, ensuring their safety and wellbeing. Escort children to restroom facilities, parents, or teen club as needed.
  8. Maintain vigilance over the children's safety during the meeting, promptly notifying the Director of Programs or Executive Director via cell phone in case of emergencies such as seizures or other issues.
  9. Ensure each child is properly signed out by their parent at the conclusion of the meeting. Clean and organize the childcare room, returning items to their designated places and restoring the room to its original condition.

In Office Responsibilities

  1. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required by the organization to stay updated on policies, procedures, and best practices.
  2. Assist with administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, responding to emails, and updating program materials as needed.
  3. Collaborate with the Children’s Program Coordinator as needed to ensure effective coordination of childcare services.
  4. Assist in the planning and organization of future events and programs for children.
  5. Attend vendoring events, health fairs, and participate in other programing events as needed.

 REQUIREMENT: Available the Second Friday of every month from 5:00pm-9:30pm. Other hours are flexible.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Childcare providers should have experience working with both typical and special needs children.

Specific desired qualifications include:

1. Ability to manage the children under a structured environment and supervise activities and safety.

2. Ability to supervise volunteers.

3. Ability to communicate with parents.

4. Understanding of the needs and behaviors of children with epilepsy (ESNOC will provide training.)

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

· Experience (2 years) working with children of all ages, including children with special needs.

· ABA experience desired

· Training in Seizure Recognition and First Aid (ESNOC will provide training).

· Training in Epilepsy 101 (ESNOC will provide training)

· CPR Training

Government Clearances:

· Live Scan fingerprinting – Upon Hiring
