You'll join a team of talented and passionate people who are motivated to make our community as strong and resilient as possible.Position SummaryThe Teacher Aide or Substitute Teacher is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in providing a quality educational experience for the children enrolled.
Program Responsibilites
  • Participates in the daily activities planned for the children.
  • Actively supervises all children inside and outside of the classroom by following the Supervision of Children policy and zoning procedures.
  • Engages in appropriate adult-child interactions carefully attending to the social/emotional relationship.
  • Assists in daily classroom routines, such as, food preparation, toileting, tooth brushing, rest time and cleanup procedures.
  • Assists with the clean-up of the classroom each day to ensure that all areas are organized and in safe repair for the next day’s program.
  • Participates in the daily review of classroom activities and children’s behaviors with classroom teachers.
  • Consults with Lead Teacher when problems arise.
  • Complies with Center’s policies, Head Start requirements, and New Hampshire Child Care Licensing regulations.
  • Develops a plan for professional growth in the area of early childhood education (Teacher Aide classification only).

  • Maintain professional boundaries with all current, past, and prospective clients, and maintain the confidentiality of clients and staff per CAPBM policy and procedure. Adhere strictly to the confidentiality of clients, co-workers, and internal business information.
  • Present a professional and positive image as a representative of CAPBM.
  • Follow established policies and procedures and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Communicate proactively with the supervisor regarding workflow, problems, suggestions, etc.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment; and attend team and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Be punctual for scheduled work, use time appropriately, and complete work in a timely fashion with minimal errors.

RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience working with preschool children a plus.
  • Strong desire to interact with young children and their families.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with children.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with other staff.
  • Fluency in language spoken primarily by Head Start families.
  • Anticipates and responds positively to continuous change and challenge.
Education
  • High School diploma or equivalency credential.
  • Training in Early Childhood Education desirable.
  • At least 9 credits in ECE preferred (one of which is Child Growth and Development).
  • Parent substitutes must have successfully completed the Head Start Substitute Training Program.
License/Certification
  • Successful completion of criminal record check.
  • A current physical examination report must be kept on file.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation for required travel.

The Community Action Program Belknap-Merrimack Counties, Inc. (CAPBMCI, CAPBM, CAP-BM, BMCAP) is a New Hampshire-based 501(c)(3) private, nonprofit organization. The agency was established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. Under this Act, over twelve hundred Community Action Agencies (CAA) were established nationwide. The primary mission of the organization is to work with low-income families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities to assist them in their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent. The Agency accomplished this task ... by providing a broad array of services that are locally defined, planned, and managed. The agency sponsors and manages seventy-three (73) programs designed to meet the needs of children, families, single parents, and the elderly. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food and shelter. The agency is funded by Federal, State, county, and local funds (37 cities and towns in Belknap and Merrimack Counties).
