Description

Columbus High School has an immediate opening for a high school physical education teacher. This position currently teaches health, personal fitness, weight training, and intro to weight training. Having a health certification is a requirement for this position. In addition, a strength and conditioning certification would be preferred but not required. Columbus High School physical education department is one of the most popular departments in the building. This specific position has an opportunity to not only teach within a dynamic department, but work within our athletic department as well. There are other opportunities within the school including extra stipends and being a strength and conditioning coordinator for the athletic department. The physical education department is also working on building new courses for next school year to offer more pathways for students to continue a healthy lifestyle.PREFER APPLICANTS POSSESSING THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:*Demonstrated ability to build positive, nurturing relationships with all learners.*Strong Demonstrated mission to be an educator.*Excellent background in current teaching and learning strategies.*The ability to analyze, synthesize and implement data that supports and enhances student academic and affective learning.*Coursework and/or other training relevant to current trends and learning strategies.*Interpersonal communication skills including positive problem solving, collaboration, teamwork, active listening, and respect.*Excellent verbal and written communication skills.*Timeliness in meeting deadlines, and requests and other professional responsibilities.*The ability to provide a safe and positive learning environment for students.*Adaptable and flexible in terms of educational changes to meet student learning needs.*Lifelong learning commitment through credentials which reflect post-secondary training, conference attendance, and membership in professional and civic organizations.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:*Meets and instructs assigned classes in locations and at the times designated.*Adheres to applicable state and federal laws, Department of Public Instruction. regulations, Board and administrative policies/rules, and unit/department requirements.*Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, reports, and projects, and successfully communicates these objectives to the students.*Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic subject matter as specified in state law, standards, and the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.*Establishes a positive student-teacher rapport and creates a classroom environment conducive to learning.*Plans, develops, and organizes lessons and instructional materials to provide for large and small group instruction in order to best meet the needs of students.*Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of student behavior.*Participates in administration of group standardized tests in accordance with the district and state testing program.*Assesses and evaluates pupils’ academic, social, emotional growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares required progress reports.*Communicates with parents through conferences including obtaining parental input and other means to discuss pupils’ progress and interpret the school program.*Cooperates with other professional staff members in identifying and assessing pupil needs, and when appropriate, refers pupils for special education evaluation and services.*Maintains professional competence through in-service training and educational activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.*Continuously seeks knowledge about current best practices and applies as appropriate.*Participates cooperatively with the building principal in the evaluation process.*Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records and required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.*Participates in the budget process and selects and requisitions books and instructional materials.*Supervises pupils in each school activity.*Participates in staff meetings, curriculum development, and other district and building committees as requested.*Takes reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.*Maintains strict confidentiality regarding students, records, and other school matters*Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.Interested candidates should please submit a cover letter, resume, three letters of recommendation, and credentials on WECAN.First round of interviews will occur as soon as possible.
