Galen Medical Group is Hiring a PROCEDURE SCHEDULER Near Chattanooga, TN

Procedure Scheduler, Non-CMAGalen Medical Group offers several medical specialties throughout the Chattanooga region. We provide quality care and patient-friendly services to adults and children of all ages. The Procedure Scheduler position will schedule patients for procedures and advise patients of surgical and financial pre-operative requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and schedule procedures and follow-up appointments as designated by physicians according to established policies and procedures.
  • Interact with patients, physicians and other staff within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information.
  • Coordinate processes and timing as required to meet physician and facility requirements.
  • Schedule diagnostic therapy and other treatments as requested.
  • Make sure authorization for the procedure from the patients insurance company has been requested.
  • Provide patients with generic preoperative information sheets and advise patients of the preoperative procedures and financial requirements.
  • Submit patient clinical and financial information to the facility assuring appropriate medical records release, if needed.
  • Answer and screen telephone calls in a courteous manner, and record messages for physicians and other personnel.
  • Obtain accurate information from patients and ensure registration is complete.
  • Coordinate the collection of patient pre-payments by sending the Pre-Payment department a task when the patient is scheduled.
  • Provide information to patients regarding unpaid balances prior to the procedure.
  • File records in appropriate sections of patient electronic or paper charts and keep patient charts in proper order.
  • Review financial and clinical paperwork to assure completion before the scheduled procedure date.
  • Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner.
  • Perform other related duties as directed or assigned.
Knowledge/Abilities/Expectations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type, review and edit reports, documentation, and correspondence.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of Galen Medical Group.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient, medical, financial, and legal information.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wear identification during work hours.
  • Represent the organization in a positive & professional manner.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-services as directed by your manager.
  • Consistently demonstrate the value of the team concept.
  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities.
  • Complete assignments efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Understands and abides by OSHA, HIPAA & CLIA standards.

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience
  • Minimum of two years experience as an administrative assistant
  • Minimum of two years experience as a CMA in a medical office.
  • Experience with insurance preauthorization and patient collections.
Skills/Certifications
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Exceptional skills of independence, organization, verbal and written communication, problem-solving, professional interaction, and human relation skills, as well as analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Must be PC literate with strong computer navigational skills, as well as extensive knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
