The network security engineer conducts research, evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of other security systems as requested. This may include installing security software, conducting regular security audits, preparing security status reports, educating users on IT security, creating security documentation for users, assisting in disaster recovery and gathering evidence regarding cyber crimes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Engineer, implement and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks, and information
• Maintains networking environment by identifying network requirements; installing upgrades and patches and monitoring network performance.
• Solve existing security issues, such as viruses or hardware malfunction by testing systems for vulnerabilities in hardware and software.
• Designs network security architecture and develop detailed cyber security designs by Identifying system security requirements
• Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation.
• Establishes network specifications, policies, and procedures in line with Agency guidelines by analyzing workflows, access, information and security requirements.
• Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks
• Write comprehensive reports including assessment-based findings, outcomes, and propositions for further system security enhancement
• Assumes on-call responsibilities for network and security issues that may arise after hours

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Technical certifications in Networking and/or Security required (CCNA Security, CCNP or other network security certifications)

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE:

• A.S/B.S Degree in computer related field preferred
• Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting enterprise level networkenvironments.
• Proven work experience as a system security engineer or information security engineer
• Detailed technical knowledge of database and operating system security
• Knowledge of research methods and techniques for networking solutions
• Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software,authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
• Knowledge in design specification development, data communications security and privacy techniques
• Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols
• Experience with network monitoring systems
• Excellent communication skills and should be able to work with carriers remotely
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, management, staff and equipment vendors
