- JOB SUMMARYThe clinical laboratory assistant provides support necessary to maintain the efficient and productive operation of the clinical laboratory. The clinical laboratory assistant will function in the Processing Section of the laboratory receiving specimens, ensuring specimens are suitable for testing and specimen quality is maintained. The lab assistant will route the specimen to the appropriate testing area and perform limited waived testing. Additionally, this individual will monitor tracking screens closely to make certain testing is performed timely.The clinical laboratory assistant may also function in the Microbiology Section receiving specimens, evaluating specimen integrity, and inoculating media specific to specimen type. The laboratory assistant will also process media shipments, electronically scan reference reports, and perform limited waived testing. This individual will also monitor tracking screens and investigate any/all outstanding orders.Additionally, the laboratory assistant can serve to process all specimens coming to the laboratory from outside physician offices- courier, train office staff, provide customer service, receive specimens, order, and label.
- EDUCATION
- Minimum High school graduate, Associate in Applied Science preferred
- LICENSURE
- Certification as a Laboratory Assistant preferred
- EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience in a clinical laboratory preferred

- COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS
- Computer experience, specifically laboratory information system preferred
- Experience using word processing programs and computers required
- Minimal mathematical skills needed
- JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills
- Ability to understand instructions, reason, and make judgments.
