The Laboratory Technician also has the primary responsibility of any other analytical testing at the plant. JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Laboratory Technician has the primary responsibility for assuring the quality of products produced. This is through the testing, monitoring, reporting, and investigation of the raw materials, continuous process, and finished product produced during the manufacturing of precipitated silica. The Laboratory Technician also has the primary responsibility of any other analytical testing at the plant. RESPONSIBILITIES Quality testing includes raw material, in-process, and finished product testing and sampling as defined and procedures, including required additional testing. "Testing" includes not only the execution of assays but also any recordkeeping requirements and computer data entry. Maintain the lab equipment and calibrations and an inventory of spare parts and reagents as required to ensure accurate and consistent results, and guarantee uptime. Prompt communication when results are out of specification or tolerance range or abnormal in a way that protects the site and the customer. Technicians must maintain an open dialog with Production Operators to ensure product quality and provide testing support as needed. Any other testing, including environmental, investigational, or regulatory as assigned or any other duty as assigned. Maintain required training and assist in the training of new site personnel or any other duty as assigned Accomplish any tasks related to the Quality, ESHS, Training, Production, Production Planning, Maintenance, or Logistics as assigned through the management system or any other duty as assigned. The incumbent needs sound judgment skills to evaluate the testing results and respond in an appropriate manner (in both result and timing) to ensure product quality. The incumbent’s actions and decisions have a direct impact on the product quality, production costs and supply chain reliability. This position requires sufficient independence to fulfill these activities with a minimum of supervision. This position has the primary responsibility of monitoring product quality by conducting various testing and evaluating the results against the parameters established to maintain product within specification. This testing consists of physical testing and instrumental testing. The evaluation of the results requires specific knowledge regarding the chemical production process to determine the appropriate actions to be initiated when results warrant action. REQUIREMENTS A minimum of an Associate degree or equivalent experience in a science related field or role (2 years). A Bachelor of Science and study related to the field of chemistry in preferred. Basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Excel required.
