POSITION PURPOSE:

Oversees all aspects of the Audiology Department including fiscal management, service delivery, program management and development, and personnel. Represents Audiology in Special Education Services departmental meetings and district meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the theory, principles and methods of Audiology;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of school-based Audiology practices;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) policy and procedure and section 504 policy and procedure;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Common Core State Standards, Extended Common Core State Standards, and the Wake County Public School (WCPSS) curriculum implementation regarding policies governing services for

student’s communication disabilities;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Ability to adapt or design equipment for individual needs;
  • Ability to select and administer appropriate assessment and treatment activities;
  • Ability to plan, implement, administer and coordinate an Audiology program;
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze student, clinician, and teacher performance data in order to generate effective courses of action;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to guide the learning process toward achievement of established Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals;
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and build consensus with school administrators, teachers, support staff, central services, Audiologist, and parents.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Doctorate degree obtained in an approved program in Audiology;
  • Passage of the NTE/Praxis in Audiology;
  • Five years of experience as an educational or Pediatric Audiologist;
  • Leadership experience in assessing student needs;
  • Experience planning, developing, evaluating, and implementing programs;
  • Experience designing and conducting professional staff development programs.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • A license from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology;
  • Department of Public Instruction Audiology Certificate;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a good driving record according to the State of NC requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Pediatric Audiology including evaluation and amplification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management

  • Participates in recruiting, interviewing, and recommending candidates for Audiology positions.
  • Provides orientation for newly hired Audiology staff.
  • Supervises and completes annual performance appraisals on all staff.
  • Assesses professional needs of staff and provides for and/or facilitates the completion of appropriate professional development opportunities.
  • Reviews and processes all necessary records from the Audiology Team.
  • Determines caseload assignments, allocates staff, and reviews staffing as needed throughout the school year.
  • Supervises and evaluates implementation of Audiology service delivery.
  • Organizes and facilitates team meetings, as needed.
  • Liaison with Teachers of the Hearing Impaired and Speech-Language Pathologists for shared procedures and practices.
  • Liaison with Department of Public Instruction.
  • Collaborates with all WCPSS divisions regarding Audiology services.
  • Collaborates with local private providers regarding shared practices and procedures.
  • Maintains current staff certification and licensure documentation.
  • Provides collaborative support to coworkers in IEP preparation and attendance.
  • Promotes Special Education Services’ Staff awareness of Audiology Services for students.
  • Represents the Audiology department at division and district level meetings.
  • Verifies departmental adherence to the Wake County, Special Education, and Audiology mission & vision.
  • Fiscal Management

  • Develops and reviews budget proposal for Audiology equipment, supplies, professional development, service contracts, and personnel.
  • Collaborates with Special Education Services’ staff and Audiology vendors in order to manage materials, equipment, and repairs necessary to delivery of Audiology services.
  • Prepares and manage annual service contracts for staff and equipment repair.
  • Prepare and manages departmental purchase requisitions for supplies & equipment.
  • Verifies supply and equipment invoices for payment.
  • Follows-up on supply order & service problems.
  • Generates data-based asset forecasting for diagnostic and student equipment.
  • Data Collection and Review

  • Analyzes service delivery data to evaluate program outcomes and efficacy.
  • Facilitates team reviews of data and program outcomes for continued improvement to service delivery.
  • Plans team professional development to address areas of need based on program outcomes data.
  • Prepares audiological data for reporting as requested by Director of Related Services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This job operates in a professional office and school environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, as well as Audiology diagnostic equipment. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, families, service providers and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
