Responsibilities

  • Tenant Care ProcessAssessment - Makes appropriate decisions regarding notifying the nurse responsible for the tenant.Planning - Plans organization of assignment in order to complete assignment in a timely fashion
  • ImplementationExecutes procedures consistent with interdisciplinary care plan, Petersen Health Care Procedure Manuals and that are within the scope of the role of the C.

N.A.Carries out basic hygiene measures including but not limited to the following : grooming, shaving, applying make-up, oral hygiene / dental care, cuts / cleans nails, fingers and toes, foot care, skin care, bathing / showering and cleaning incontinent tenants.

Turns and positions tenants to prevent pressure areasAssists with standing, lifting, transferring and ambulating tenantsGives and removes bed pans, urinals and performs Foley careMeasures temperature, radial pulse, respiration and blood pressureDistributes nourishments, feeds tenants and records % of dietary intakeAssists with admission, transfer and discharges of tenants Collects specimens urine, feces and sputumMeasures and records fluid intake and outputMaintains appropriate supplies of gloves and other personal protective equipmentAssists in dressing, buttoning, typing and snapsAssists in organizing tenants drawers, closets and roomsCleans tenants jewelry as needed or upon requestVerifies that all dentures, glasses and personal items are marked with proper tenant’s nameCleans wheelchairs and Geri-chairs on a regular basis and as neededPasses ice water and assists tenants with hydrationsAnswers call lightsAssists the nurse or physician with minor treatments and procedures as assignedProvides post-mortem careProvides for the safety and security needs of the tenant by : Making frequent checks on tenants and responding to the tenant's call for assistance in a timely and appropriate mannerGiving appropriate explanationsMaintaining communication devices (nurse call light, TV and telephone and other such equipment)Utilizes techniques of infection control such as : Frequent hand washingStandard precautions and disease specific precautionary techniquesProvides for the psychosocial needs of tenantsListens to and hears tenant and family anxieties and relays this information to the nurse

Role InvolvementPerforms responsibilities in a cooperative manner under the guidance and supervision of professional nursing personnel.

Uses time constructively and organizes assignments for maximum productivity.Maintains current knowledge in present Nursing Practice (in-servicing and continuing education) including the Mandatory Educational Activities as Fire Safety / Evacuation Procedures, Blood borne pathogens and proper body mechanics)Demonstrates responsibility for own Standard of PracticeReporting for work as scheduled and on timeAdhering to facility policy regarding absenteeism and sick timeAvoiding work-related injuries through the application or proper practice techniquesAssumes responsibility for personal appearance by adhering to the Petersen Health Care dress codeIntegrate cost effective measures nursing practices by : Using supplies efficientlyBeing willing to work in a team approach to accomplish goals

Skills & Qualifications

  • Be of legal working age
  • Be able to read and follow written directions
  • Be able to communicate with tenants and co-workers in English
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, tenants, family members, visitors, government agencies / personnel and the general public.
  • Work overtime as necessary
  • General knowledge and understanding of state and federal regulations as they pertain to long term care
  • Completion of the Certified Nurse’s Aide course or be enrolled in a Competency Training Program leading to certification in less than 120 days from the date of employment
