Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree or higher with proper certification as required by the Professional Standards Commission. Three or more years as an educator. Must have a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle operator’s license with endorsements compatible with assigned duties of Cherokee County Board of Education.
GOALEnsure that no student in Cherokee County gains less than full advantage of the educational opportunities provided by the school system as a result of personal, family, school or community problems.
Representative Duties & Responsibilities
- Investigate attendance problems reported by schools or persons in the community.
- Coordinate a referral system to provide direct service to students, parents and teachers.
- Provide interventions based on needs and priorities to help with home, school or personal adjustment problems. (Interventions may include home visits, conferences with school personnel or referrals to local or state agencies such as the Cherokee County Department of Family and Children Services, Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Public Health, Georgia Highlands Center for Mental Health or Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.)
- Serve as home, school and community liaison for at-risk families.
- Gather data necessary for assessment purposes.
- Initiate petitions for juvenile intake and prepare cases for hearings.
- Maintain a working knowledge of state law and Board Policies regarding child welfare.
- Initiate referrals to The Cherokee County Truancy Panel, an interagency collaborative designed to address truancy issues with at-risk families.
- Operate Board-owned vehicle in a safe manner, and assume responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle.
- Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or license as may be required for this position.
- Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
- Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
- Review current developments, literature and technical source information related to job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
