The media specialist is a leader and a collaborating member of the instructional team, planning with the administrator and teachers to identify, select, and provide the best resources to meet learner needs.

The media specialist must ensure a unified media program which is effectively managed, instructionally related, supportive of learning in a variety of formats, and accessible to all.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : 1. Provides a positive learning environment and supervises students while in the media center.

4. Selects quality materials based on curriculum, teacher and student needs, interests, and abilities, while maintaining a balanced collection.

5. Utilizes district policy and selection tools and procedures in selecting materials and equipment.6. Develops strategies and long-range plans which enhance the library skills / reading program.

7. Participates in campus, district, and state goal-setting activities.8. Establishes effective utilization of the media center by working with individuals, groups, and classes which support the curriculum and school's academic goals.

9. Develops and maintains budget information for media center's allocated funds.10. Complies with campus, district and state policies and procedures as appropriate.

11. Keeps systematic records and compiles statistical data so that program efficiency can be evaluated.12. Develops professionally through professional readings, workshops, committees, in-services, professional organizations, etc.

13. Provides information in a variety of formats.14. Plans with administrators, teachers and students, individually and in groups, for effective use of library materials and facilities.

15. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with administrators, staff, students and community through effective communication and public relations.

16. Creates an environment in which students and staff can work at productive levels.17. Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.

18. Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.19.

Assumes any other duties assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications : The individual must be able to perform each essential job duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and / or abilities needed to perform the job at a fully acceptable level.

Education, Experience, and / or Certification :

Must have a Bachelor's degree in Education or the subject area. Advanced degree with media certification a plus.Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission Clearance Certificate and Georgia Professional Teaching Certificate in the assigned content area.

Demonstrated experience in the knowledge of the content area.Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Professional Requirements : Must serve as a role model to students. Desirable personal characteristics are required. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required.

Must be at work on time. Must meet attendance standards. Must conduct activities safely.
