PURPOSE:The Fleet Service Technician maintains, repairs, and overhauls all types of municipal automotive and construction equipment, including tractors, diesel trucks, fire apparatus, pickup trucks, sedans, mowers, power tools, and other equipment. The incumbent performs skilled and manual labor.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Performs automotive and heavy equipment maintenance services, including the repair of A/C, carburetors, engines, transmissions, axles, fuel injectors, electrical and hydraulic components.
• Provides roadside service repairs, including towing.
• Knowledge and operation of light truck and heavy equipment.
• Monitors parts inventory.
• Assists in restocking and purchasing of required parts as necessary.
• Performs routine inspection of assigned City vehicles and equipment.
• Assists in maintaining and monitoring repair records for vehicles and equipment.
• Working knowledge of diesel engines, gasoline engines, hydraulic components and electronic failure diagnosis and repair.
• Knowledge of welding and fabricating.
• Ability to work with hand and power tools.
• Must maintain good mechanical and electrical abilities and aptitude.
• Reports for duty in emergency situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma.
2. At least 2 years of accredited vocational training in automotive, truck or heavy equipment repair.
3. At least 3 years of experience repairing and overhauling automotive, light truck and heavy truck.
4. Knowledge and ability to operate motorized equipment, automobiles, trucks and hand tools.
5. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) endorsement (Classes A,B,C)
6. Experience working on fire truck apparatus preferred.
7. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred.
8. Emergency Vehicle Training (EVT) preferred.
9. Knowledge of Microsoft with add on Navistar, Engine Service Diagnostics, Allison Doc, and Cummins Insite, Max NED, Diamond Logic, Versus and Prolink.
10. Experience with tire repair and replacement.
