Position Summary:

This position is assigned to the Adams County Detention Facility.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of criminal justice and corrections tasks throughout the following 5 units (employees are typically trained in one area before moving onto tasks in another unit): 

Supervised Release Program

  • Supervises defendants charged with felonies; misdemeanors, traffic or petty offenses that are placed in a Court Services program while in custody and when released pending court deposition
  • Closely monitors and report the compliance or non-compliance of defendants and substance abuse testing through urinalysis
  •  Records and evaluates clients/inmates progress on court-approved programs, and prepare compliance and noncompliance reports
  •  Schedules and conducts office visit with client on programs *Monitor clients on GPS as a condition of bond 

Pretrial Supervision 

  • Interviews incoming inmate and verify personal information for bond purposes 
  • Provides background information, criminal history, and recommendations to the court, district attorney, and defense attorney for advice concerning bond
  • Conducts Watch Commander releases 
  • Issues Mandatory Protection Orders
  • Attends Advisal Court
  • Determines if new arrests need to go to IH court advisal
  • Types Colorado Pre-Trial Assessment Tool (CPAT) for judicial processes 
  • Prepares Court Dockets

Classifications

  •  Writes disciplinary records of current population and inmate status 
  • Prepares serve and complete disciplinary sanction and complete tracking log
  • Manages and coordinates housing assignments
  • Interviews newly arrested inmates for appropriate housing assignment 
  • Maintains accurate records of current population and inmate status

Inmate Workers/Work Release

  • Develops and maintains work rosters
  • Assigns inmate labor jobs according to risk, for inmates confined to Detention Facility conducting field site checks
  • Reviews, verifies, and approves client/inmate to work release, inmate worker programs 

Time Computation and State Offenders

  • Tracks county, community, and state inmates; Computes release dates
  •  Collects buccal swab genetic testing from inmates in accordance with state law, to include collecting, sealing, and sending to Colorado Bureau of Investigations for testing
  • Completes electronic mittimus acceptance and transport orders on Department of Corrections inmates
  • Places detainers with other facilities via teletype and fax
  • Computes and verifies for accuracy release dates for inmate sentences from court mittimus
  • Records and prepares daily statistics for Department of Corrections Backlog, Parole Violators, Community Placement and Community Corrections, relating to inmate status

All Court Services Employees:

  • Responsible for interviewing detainees to obtain detailed information, verifying alleged offenses committed by detainees, communicating with various agencies and officials as well as family, friends, and employers of detainees
  • Utilizes law enforcement databases; prepare a variety of related documents to include establishing and maintaining files
  • Serves as an officer of the court in various hearings and is required to testify in court*
  • Has extensive contact with Judicial and law enforcement officials, Public Defenders, Private Attorneys, Parole Officers, the general public, defendants under supervision and incarcerated individuals as required
  • Work requires general clerical tasks, extensive computer entry into local and state systems
  • Data entry- input charges and sentence information into computer database
  • Verbally communicate information to various agencies to include but not limited to Judicial and Law Enforcement officials, inmates, defendants, clients, and the general public
  • Research and track the location of Adams County sentenced inmates who are in other facilities or programs
  • Must retain certification for CCIC/NCIC computer system to obtain criminal history and warrant informant on inmates
  • Provide victim notification when client/inmate is placed on certain programs
  • Must be able to work various shifts including, days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Reliable, predictable attendance
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree or vocational technical training in criminal justice, criminology, corrections, social services, or related field or two years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities 
  • Experience in interviewing techniques, procedures and ability to verify information received
  • Familiar with the operation of a personal computer and software applications to perform word processing, database, and spreadsheet projects
  • Type 30 wpm with accuracy
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Level J certification in NCIC/CCIC computer system 
  • Knowledge of criminal justice and corrections duties related to pretrial services classifications, and sentencing
  • Knowledge of criminal justice and corrections duties related to Pretrial Services, Classifications, and offender sentencing
  • Be familiar with the operation of a personal computer and software application to perform word processing, database, and spreadsheet projects
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Level J certification in the NCIC/CCIC computer system
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of Federal, State laws and statutes applicable to various aspects of the job including corrections, criminal justice system and law enforcement 
  • Applicant must be able to efficiently multi-task, have strong organized skills, and demonstrate proficiency in time-management
  • Experience in interviewing techniques, procedures, and ability to verify information received
  • Comfortable with one-on-one contact with inmates while conducting interviews, performing case management duties, and collecting genetic testing samples.
Applicants must be available to work rotating day shift, swing shift, nights, holidays, and overtime.
