Work onprojects as assigned, following established procedures. Drive school bus as a substitute driverwhen necessary.QualificationsEducation/Certification:Class B CDL or Class A CDL with Passenger and School Bus Driver EndorsementsTEA Bus Driver CertificationSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervisionAbility to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repairAbility to lift heavy equipment and vehicle partsAbility to pass alcohol and drug testAbility to pass bus driver physical examAbility to pass required bus driver safety trainingAcceptable driving recordAbility to operate busExperienceTwo years experience as mechanicMajor Responsibilities And DutiesMaintenance and Repairs
  • Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.
  • Perform mechanical repairs as needed.
  • Help Shop Foreman complete major repairs.
  • Do welding and minor bodywork.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on each district vehicle.
  • Inspect vehicles and evaluate condition of systems, equipment, accessories, and lights; service as needed.
  • Make minor repairs to equipment as part of the preventive maintenance program and provide training for the mechanics helper, when needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment according to established schedules.
Safety
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Help keep shop, equipment, and tools clean and in safe operating condition.
Other
  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
  • Operate buses and other vehicles as needed.
  • Work irregular hours as needed.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone.Equipment UsedAutomotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small handtools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jacks and liftequipment, school buses and other district vehicles.Working ConditionsMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, andreaching. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with movingparts.
