Position Summary:

Interconn Resources LLC, a privately held natural gas marketing company, headquartered in Birmingham and a subsidiary of Tauber Oil Company, has an immediate need for Controller in our Birmingham office. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Controller will be responsible for the company’s financials and trade risk management with the primary function of helping manage the company’s growth and to separate the financial and risk management function from the operational function of the business. This position will manage two accountants and an ETRM integration and operations specialist and will work closely with the President who is responsible for the commercial and operational functions of the company. As a team they will work together to accumulate the information necessary to produce the following: Monthly P&L Forecast; Monthly Income Statement; Monthly Balance Sheet and Monthly Performance/Reporting Package. This information will be reviewed and compared before being presented to the CEO.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Lead a three-member team of accountants and financial analysts with an emphasis on skill development and gaining business knowledge.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Communicate monthly results and key performance metrics with the Executive Management team.

Oversee and assist the team with the preparation of monthly financial statements, ensuring proper accounting controls are performed.

Key member of audit team for both bank compliance audit and accounting audit of financial statements.

Analyze and approve credit requests for customers and negotiate credit lines, letters of credit and parental guarantees with suppliers.

Negotiate accounts receivable insurance for our customer accounts and surety bonds for our suppliers.

Responsible for payroll processes and negotiating health benefit renewal.

Attend and report on daily mark-to-market changes for the business during the daily risk meetings.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 5-10 years of accounting/finance experience.

Familiarity with energy trade capture and risk management systems (ETRM).

Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Thorough understanding of energy commodities trading.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

Excellent MS Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables, etc.) are required.

Experience with various accounting software systems such as (MS Dynamics – Solomon or MS Business Central) is highly desired.

Prior experience in natural gas or other relevant commodity accounting experience is highly desired.

CPA preferred, but not required.
