Friends of Acadia is Hiring a Development Manager Near Bar Harbor, ME

Friends of Acadia seeks an experienced, organized, and creative development professional to manage the annual fundraising programs, including membership, annual fund, and business support campaigns. This position develops and manages a matrix of solicitation and communication strategies focused on building a sustainable tradition of annual support. The Development Manager identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards relationships with individuals and businesses, securing gifts for annual support, as well as identifies opportunities for future campaigns and planned giving. The successful candidate will have skills in project management and collaboration, data management and analysis, volunteer supervision, research, and the ability to craft compelling and inspiring messages. A love of Acadia and an understanding of conservation makes candidates for this position most competitive.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements, and manages the goal-oriented membership and annual fund campaigns including direct mailings, e-mails, social media postings, and personal solicitations; writes solicitation letters, brochures, inserts, and gift acknowledgements; collaborates extensively with the communications department. Both the membership and annual fund have specific annual growth goals for which the incumbent is leading.
  • Plans, implements, and manages the business support program which includes identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding annual business memberships and sponsorships; ensures that Business Members receive appropriate benefits and recognition. Collaborates extensively with the Communications Team.
  • Plans, implements, and manages the volunteer-driven summer Membership Table program, as well as other volunteer opportunities in the office, ensuring volunteers are well trained, recognized, and equipped for success.
  • Works proficiently in the donor database (Raiser’s Edge NXT) including data entry, retrievals, reports, and analysis (training provided).
  • Serves as an active member of the development staff and other cross-departmental efforts, open and eager to develop and implement new fundraising strategies and membership growth goals.

Success Factors:In conjunction with position-related skills, the successful candidate will become an integral member of the Friends of Acadia team with these criteria:

  • Serves as part of a cross-departmental team that drives membership and promotes the Friends of Acadia mission in print, online, and at in-person opportunities, such as the Membership Table and other local events.
  • Develops, maintains, and promotes positive and professional relationships with internal staff, volunteers, members, vendors, contractors, media, and the general public in order to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Maintains a commitment to, and ability to convey, the Friends of Acadia mission with genuine passion, and the willingness to continually learn about the programs and mission.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in a non-profit organization in annual giving, advancement services, development, or related experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; sense of humor appreciated!
  • Strong process, planning, and implementation skills
  • Creative problem solver, and strategic, organized thinker.
  • Excellent time-management skills to handle a variety of assignments simultaneously under a variety of deadlines and other constraints.
  • Ability to understand and interpret instruction to work effectively and efficiently independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with regard to handling data and executing reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft office programs with emphasis on Word and Excel; donor database experience and proficiency essential, particularly Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT
  • Results driven; ability to manage and measure work, balancing multiple projects and goals.
