Main Purpose of Job

This position will develop education-focused community-based partnerships designed to support youth under DJS supervision as they pursue their high school, GED or postsecondary goals.

Examples include developing academic tutoring and GED prep and postsecondary program support for students currently enrolled in school.

This position will engage and provide training to DJS case managers and community staff on how they can most effectively support DJS students in attaining their high school diploma, GED or post- secondary diplomas / certifications.

This position will work with the Director of Education and DJS Workforce Development staff to develop new and innovative community-based diploma granting / GED, postsecondary and workforce development programming, in partnership with nonprofit organizations, community colleges, local and state governments, and local businesses.

This position offers a hybrid teleworking schedule. This position requires significant time in person in communities where youth under DJS supervision and their families live and where youth serving organizations are located.

This position entails meeting and working with organizations, youth and families in person, across the state.

POSITION DUTIES

Develop education-focusedcommunity-based partnerships designed to support youth under DJS supervision asthey pursue their high school, GED or postsecondary goals.

Develop and provide training toDJS case managers on how they can most effectively support DJS students inattaining the high school diploma, GED or post -secondarydiplomas / certifications.

This includes developing webinars and trainingworkshops and working side-by-side with DJS case managers to increase theircapacity to provide needed academic-related support to DJS’s community-basedstudents.

Coordinate with the Director ofEducation and DJS Workforce Development staff to develop new and innovativecommunity-based diploma granting / GED, postsecondary and workforce developmentprogramming, in partnership with nonprofit organizations, community colleges,local and state governments, and local businesses.

This includes forging andmaintaining relationships with key individuals and institutions across thestate, increasing the nature and number of opportunities for DJS supervisedstudents to persist academically in high school and postsecondary education andworkforce development schools and programs.

  • Establish and maintain strong,working relationships with local schools, other long-term placement centers,and key DJS and JSEP staff, including school registrars, counselors and casemanagers.
  • Maintain-directly and inconcert with partner agencies and DJC performance evaluation staff accuraterecords related to student enrollment and progress in community-based educationand workforce development related programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience : Three years of experience providing case management or resource specialist services to youth in a community or residential setting.

Notes :

1. Candidates may substitute possession of an Associate of Arts degree in the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university and two years of experience providing direct services to children in a community or residential setting for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute possession of a Master’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute four years of experience providing case management or resource specialist services to youth in a community or residential setting for four years of college.

4. Candidates may substitute Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Correctional Institution Administration classifications or Correctional Institution Administration specialty codes in the Miscellaneous Occupations field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Candidates who have at least one year ofexperience with alternative education / non-profit youth-serving organizationexperience ( GED programs, job readiness, internships / apprenticeships, colleges / universities, etc.

and building partnerships to benefit youth. 2. Candidates who have at least two years of work experience working with youth in thecommunity that may be transitioning out of the DJS (or similar agency) backinto the community.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
