Atlanticare is Hiring a Pathology Assistant Near Atlantic, NJ
The Pathology Assistant (PA) is an integral part of the Pathology Section of the Laboratory. The PA works independently while under the direct supervision of a pathologist performing the professional duties associated with the preparation of surgical pathology specimens. This position applies appropriate procedural techniques, knowledge of human anatomy, macro surgical techniques and general laboratory techniques.
The PA will assist in performing autopsies and all surgical pathology services, including frozen sections, related to specimen examination. The position demonstrates ability to obtain and prepare tissue for evaluation and provide assistance to pathologists within the guidelines in a manner.
The Pathology Assistant is expected to be technologically competent in all computer applications as they apply to the gross examination process, including the use of voice-activated dictation systems. The PA will assist in developing and applying standardized report templates using appropriate medical terminology, photography of gross and microscopic specimens; and preparing pathology cases for conferences, as needed. The PA will also assist in archiving or retrieving archived surgical cases. This position will support specific Quality Assurance functions within the department.
The Pathology Assistant will apply the use of the infection control requirements of the position, as well as be knowledgeable to all regulatory requirements as they relate to the gross room and PA function.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or Master degree from an accredited United States Pathologist Assistant program required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: certification by the American Association of Pathologist Assistants. Participation in 24 CEUs required annually.
EXPERIENCE: 3-5 yrs in a CAP accredited clinical pathology laboratory.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
