Title: CAD Technician
Work Type: Onsite in Glen Allen, VA (minimum 3 days per week in-office)
Employment Type: 6-month contract with possible extension
Pay: $36.00/hour
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled CAD Technician with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience, including some HVAC and electrical design experience. This role involves preparing detailed working drawings using Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CAD) tools. The position requires interpreting and drafting engineering sketches to create high-quality engineering drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare high-quality engineering drawings from established layouts and rough sketches using drafting principles, industry graphic standards, and corporate drawing practices.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations for accurate scaled presentations of scope elements.
- Setup and maintain CAD files, ensuring conformance to office and industry drafting standards.
- Convert and import architectural drawing files, text, and schedules into CAD.
- Utilize lisp files, functions, and run script files.
- Ensure compliance with quality requirements and provide input during initial and subsequent design phases.
- Estimate project drafting time and ensure scope, schedule, and budget align with team expectations.
- Ensure timely production and delivery of reprographics.
- Coordinate and prioritize workload to meet project deadlines and budgets.
- Perform field investigations as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Travel to project sites, which may include longer drives (3-6 hours) or short flights (e.g., Richmond to Newark), with some overnight stays. Travel is not mandatory within the first 6 months of employment but is encouraged over time.
Education:
- Associate degree or two years of progressively responsible experience as a CAD Technician may be considered equivalent.
Experience:
- Two (2) to five (5) years of relevant work experience required, with some HVAC and electrical design experience preferred.
