BioDrive is Hiring a Research Associate II Near Alameda, CA

Research associateWe are currently in search of a Research Associate II to join our R&D team dedicated to advancing the development of cyanobacteria as a supplement aimed at weight reduction to enhance longevity and improve overall quality of life. A strong background in molecular biology is essential for this role, accompanied by significant hands-on experience within a molecular biology laboratory environment.

Responsibilities:

- Regular subculture maintenance of wildtype/transgenic non-model cyanobacteria strains

- Maintenance of growth chambers, including CO2 incubators

- Preparation of media required for experimentation

- Organization and upkeep of laboratory equipment and supplies

- Glassware maintenance, including washing and autoclaving

Duties:

- Collaborating with a senior scientist on the development of novel non-model cyanobacteria strains expressing health-enhancing peptides

- Performing cloning of Genes of Interest (GOIs) into transformation vectors and conducting maxipreps

- Conducting screening procedures for positive lines, genotyping, and sequencing

- Assessing the expression levels of proteins

- Providing daily progress reports to the senior scientist

- Keeping well-organized and clear records of performed procedures and results/data

- Preparing presentations and communicating progress and results to the team

Required Qualifications (Skills and Experience):

BS Degree, 3 years/ MS Degree, (1 ) years of industry/academic experience. Strong skills in molecular biology such as cloning, PCR, qPCR, CRISPR, transformations, Western blot, and ELISA. Knowledge/skills of basic data analysis using R, python, Excel, GraphPad, etc. Ability to follow molecular biology protocols and strictly adhere to all steps. Be comfortable working in a busy laboratory with many other team members.

Preferred Qualification:

Be familiar with prokaryotic expression systems to produce recombinant peptides/proteins, such as cyanobacteria, chloroplasts (plants or algae) and E. coli, transformation vector construction, bombardment, electroporation, PEG-based transformation. Work experience in a microalgae lab or company.

Salary: 95k
