• The Forensic/SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) unit at Cleveland Clinic Akron General is staffed by nurses who are specially trained to care for individuals of all ages who have experienced or witnessed any type of violence. This violence may include sexual assault, child abuse, interpersonal violence, elder abuse or human trafficking. Our services are offered 24/7.• The Forensic staff consists of specially trained nurses experienced in injury assessment skills and the effects of violence. Our medical staff and specialized nurses focus on providing medical assessment and treatment of individuals affected by violence based on the patient’s specific needs.• Evidence collection and photo documentation are also available and offered to our patients. Forensic nurses can facilitate law enforcement involvement. The nurses are knowledgeable of mandated reporting laws and can provide legal testimony as requested.• Staff work with members of the multidisciplinary team within the hospital setting and within the community to provide enhanced follow up services and resources. Safety plans are discussed and implemented before the patient is discharged.
