Job Summary
Coordinate health and nutrition related services for Friends of Children and Families, Inc. (FOCAF). Interface with FOCAF staff, parents, volunteers, Health and Safety Manager, Registered Dietitian Consultant, Nurse Consultant, and the Leadership Team.
Essential Functions
  • Provides education and training in the areas of health, nutrition, prenatal care, and safety to program participants, Early Head Start and Head Start staff.
  • Consults experts in the community for training as needed, stays current on health and safety trends.
  • Ensures all children 0-3 are up to date according to the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT).
  • Monitors children’s progress utilizing ChildPlus for quality and accurate completion of; vision, hearing, medical, and dental.
  • Assists Early Parent Childhood Educators (ECPE) with 45-day requirements and any follow ups.
  • Monitors ChildPlus reports to ensure that all health screenings are completed within 45 and 90 days of child entering in the program.
  • Evaluates Health Services data and prepares reports for Health & Safety Manager (HSM), Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), and Health Services Advisory Committee (HSAC)
  • Evaluates Nutrition Services data and prepares reports HSM, MDT, and HSAC.
  • Evaluates child injury forms data and prepares reports to HSM, MDT, and HSAC as needed.
  • Conducts prenatal home visits and 2-week postpartum health checks to all families with newborn infants who are enrolled in the program.
  • Collaborates effectively with the other managers and center supervisors to ensure integrated program operations; implement program goals and work with the team to jointly address and resolve problems.
  • Coordinates with Registered Dietician for home based nutrition referrals and collaborates for Play and Learn (PAL) menus.
  • Supervises and assists the Early Head Start Support Specialist (EHSSS).
  • Remains current on policies, procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, and EPSDT.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor, and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress.
  • Directly supervises the EHS Support Specialist I.
  • Prioritizes and adjusts to the changing demands of the position.
  • Handles and adapts to stressful situations.
  • Provides CPR and First Aid Training to staff.
  • Follows the FOCAF procedures and guidelines for issuing the EHS Credit Card to staff for purchases.
  • Ensures there is an effective, comprehensive system for preventing illness or injury by collecting data, tracking, and reporting on child injuries.
  • Monitors SDS (Safety Data Sheets) for centers.
  • Monitors Child Injury Reports.
  • Promotes positive, culturally relevant health education to children, parents, and staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment for professional development and continuous growth by actively seeking out and participating in training opportunities.
  • Engages with supervisor and co-workers on constructive and timely feedback, accepting feedback as a growth opportunity, and is open to continuous improvement for oneself and the organization
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Nursing, Maternal and Child Health, Health Administration or in a related field.
  • At least one year of related experience, with emphasis on training and knowledge of community health/nutrition resources.
  • Must pass a physical screening and TB test.
  • Must pass a criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and FOCAF Head Start standards.
  • Must pass a drug test and submit to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
  • Must maintain current CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification.
