Elementary Migrant Summer School Teacher Positions for North Marion’s Migrant Education Program (2 Positions)

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability needed for the position.

  • Oregon Teaching License at the Elementary Level
  • Bilingual Spanish / English preferred
  • Supervise students assigned to you during Summer School Session
  • Ability to develop curriculum to meet the needs of students using the state standards in both reading and math, and integrate with technology, writing and STEM and / or follow established Migrant education requirements.
  • Can develop units that both accelerate and enrich student achievement.
  • Ability to work in a team of 2 teachers to develop hands-on, thematic units for students in the areas of reading and math.
  • Ability to develop pre and post formative assessment to demonstrate student growth in the areas of reading and math.
  • Demonstrated understanding of assessment for learning.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of both struggling learners and students who have already met benchmarks in reading and / or math.
  • Genuine enjoyment and understanding of a diverse population of children and families, including students with varied linguistic abilities and social needs.
  • Ability to perform within district and program policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional relationships and work in harmony with other staff, supervisors, parents, students, and general public.
  • Ability to interact with diverse parents and communicate student growth and progress to parents and the Summer Migrant Coordinator on a regular basis.
  • Physical and mental skills and abilities needed to meet the performance standards for teachers and essential functions of the teaching assignment.
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and / or parent information
  • Perform physical requirements which may include : (see attached addendum for additional physical requirements)
  • Moderate to extensive degree of physical and emotional stamina
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking and sitting
  • Ability to restrain students in emergency situations
  • Frequent and prolonged talking / hearing conversations
  • Possess near / far visual acuity / depth perception
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student injury and illnesses
  • Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Plan and implement a program of study following state and district goals / curriculum that as much as is possible, meet the individual needs and development of students
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; establish clear objectives for all instructional units, projects and lessons to communicate these goals and objectives to students
  • Diagnose the needs and abilities of assigned students and prescribe appropriate learning activities for each student
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents / guardians concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and / or rules governing student conduct the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Encourage students to set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior
  • Maintain accurate, complete and confidential records as required by law, administrative regulations and district policy
  • Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy and regulations (GCBD / GDBD)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND / OR TESTING REQUIRED :

  • Oregon Teaching License - Elementary Level
  • Possess a valid First Aid card if required
  • Possess a valid Oregon Driver's License if required
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training / Hepatitis B Shot Series Training if required
