Work Schedule: This role will be onsite 3-5 days a week.
Position SummaryThe Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) Coordinator leads the implementation of a tiered system of strategic support focused on analyzing data and using it to drive the next steps. This position will be responsible for working closely with school administrators, educators, support staff, families, and students to establish and implement a tiered framework that meets the needs of each and every student through academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning (SEL) interventions. This supervisor will provide district-wide guidance to ensure that research-based MTSS strategies, interventions, and systems are in place to support student achievement. The person in this role will work under all applicable laws, guidelines, and UVA policies.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesMTSS Implementation and Monitoring
  • Leads and monitors a district-wide MTSS implementation plan aligned to the district’s strategic plan priority for MTSS.
  • Implements a district MTSS Committee that includes representation from school sites and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversees the development of Tier 1, 2, and 3 problem-solving processes, data-driven decision-making, problem-solving processes, progress monitoring, and communication and collaboration processes among district-wide teams.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of instructional resources by analyzing student performance data, observing teachers’ classrooms, and receiving feedback from school leaders, intervention coordinators, and interventionists
  • Identifies evidence-based interventions aligned to targeted academic gaps in student performance
  • Drives systematic implementation of academic and behavioral interventions across our network of schools
  • Conducts regular assessments on the integrity of intervention implementation
  • Participates in Section 504/SBLC teams as needed
Data Analysis and Monitoring
  • Facilitates the implementation and analysis of a district-wide universal screener for academics, social-emotional learning, and behavior.
  • Uses the universal screener data to conduct a needs assessment and identify learning needs at each grade level and content area.
  • Develops systems and structures for progress monitoring of intervention
  • Analyzes trends in student performance in the areas of academic outcomes
  • Provides quarterly reports to School Leaders and the Chief of academics
Teacher and Student Support and Coaching
  • Develops training programs and provides ongoing coaching for leadership teams, staff, and teachers on the MTSS framework and research-based practices for tiered intervention.
  • Manages and provides intensive support to educators at each grade level
  • Provides training to educators and staff members who support intervention so that they are able to implement successfully and progress monitor Tier 2/3 interventions
  • Coaches interventionists as needed
  • Collaborates with the K-2 ELA, 3-8 ELA, and K-8 Math Curriculum and Instructional Design Facilitators to design a comprehensive intervention model to support Tier 3 literacy and math
  • Creates or curates supplemental resources, as needed, to strengthen the intervention model
  • Trains Interventionists on analyzing universal screening results, trends in student performance, and how to group students based on screening results
  • Identifies evidence-based interventions aligned to targeted academic and social-emotional gaps in student performance
  • Provides professional development and support to Intervention staff
  • Collaborates with UVA’s Instructional Team and Student Support team members regularly
  • Collaborates with school leaders and intervention coordinators to monitor and support the implementation of intervention programs
  • Collaborates with the Curriculum team to analyze data, evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention model, and make adjustments as needed
  • Travels occasionally to support statewide mandated test administration and to participate in student-sponsored events.
  • Performs other duties as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of five years of related professional work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree
  • 5 years of experience as an educational leader
  • 4 years in online learning environments
  • 3 years of charter or traditional school system
