General DescriptionProvides overall supervision of the daily operations of Transit buses.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education And Experience RequirementsRequires two (2) years bus operating or fleet dispatching experience or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and LicensesPossess and maintains a valid Florida CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A/B with Air Brake and Passenger and Endorsement for duration of appointment.

  • Program/Project Management Certification
  • Drug/Alcohol Certification; Transit Safety and/or Security Certification
  • Broward County Transportation (BCT) Transportation Leadership Program
  • One (1) or more years of Peoplesoft experience
  • One (1) or more years of Service planning and scheduling experience
  • One (1) or more years Experience working with a unionized work force
  • One (1) or more years Knowledge/Experience with FDOT 14-90
  • MIDAS and/or CAD-AVL experience
Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.Performs various duties in communications, dispatching, customer service and road supervision; monitors transit operations from communication center; works with various agencies to support and maintain the public and transit operations, such as police, road works, and businesses.
Provides assistance to operators in the field, monitors operator's performance, authorizes changes to routes and schedules due to road closures and detours; assists passengers when needed.
Reports to the scene of an accident and investigates; provides assistance to operators and passengers at the scene of accidents and incidents on the bus; coordinates the reporting of accidents to law enforcement and investigator personnel; takes pictures and prepares and submits related forms and reports.
Schedules routes, and answers questions the drivers may have about rules and regulations; manages operator's schedules when changes to the master schedule arise.
Provides overall supervision to direct subordinates in monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures involving transit user safety, security, daily operations and appearance; instructs employees in customer service practices and techniques and in proper procedures for emergency situations; schedules drug testing as required.
Schedules vacations and requested days off, maintaining and distributing documentation of reason for absence; updates employee information; reconciles payroll trip sheets, corrects any errors before forwarding to the payroll department.
Reviews operator taxi vehicles for operability; notifies any units needing immediate service; assigns light duty and standby operators to properly fuel taxi vehicles; collects various reports and verifies accuracy.
Performs related work as assigned.
