INTENT: The intent of this position description is to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this job title. This position description is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the general supervision of the Park & Recreation Director, this position is responsible for the planning, organizing, promoting, implementing and leadership of a variety of adult and youth recreation programs, activities, and special events for the Parks and Recreation Department. Responsibilities of this position, include creation and implementation, marketing of programs/special events, and assistance with general office procedures. Work will be performed in accordance with established goals and objectives and is reviewed through the observation of results. ________________________________________________________________________________________

SECTION A REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required at the time of hire or for continuation of employment.

Develop, implement, supervise and evaluate assigned recreation programs. Ability to make contacts throughout the community and other resources for assistance with programs. Ability to work independently; to prioritize tasks and organize work efficiently. Research ideas for programs. Create new programming, maintain current programming, establish program guidelines (expenses, hours, fees, workers, etc.), finalize lesson plans, select equipment purchases, acquire necessary instructors if not self, coordinate and implement the program. ? Prepare written documents, statistical reports, work orders, time sheets, schedules, press releases, ? brochures, calendars, program rosters, etc. ? Book facility, campground, and program rentals; attend to facility user’s needs, including permits and equipment ? Assists in coordinating and conducting program registrations, collects and deposits program fees. ? Ability to perform various office duties for program development and implementation including composing notices, maintaining rosters, gathering and distribution of supplies. ? Assists in tracking and documenting the use of the City of Ashland facilities, parks and campground. ? Maintaining a level of confidentiality and discretion. ? Ability to oversee the work of others, establish and maintain effective working relationships and evaluate work performance. ? Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing and on the computer. ? Ability to communicate with parents and youth. ? Ability to operate general office equipment including computer, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, telephone system and security system. ? Ability to operate janitorial equipment such as vacuum, brooms, mops and shovels. ? Performs other duties as requested or assigned. ? Abide by and communicate City and department policies with staff

SECTION B EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE ?

High School Diploma ? Interested parties should be seeking or graduated with a bachelor’s degree in recreation management, physical education, education, outdoor education, sports management, or related field preferred; or course work in recreation management, physical education, education, sports management, or two (2) years of related work experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. ? Completion of American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED training within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment. _________________________________________________________________________________

SECTION C QUALIFICATIONS ?

Must be 18 years of age by the start date of this position. ? Be able to work a 40 hour work week. ? Valid Driver’s License is required with an acceptable (insurable) driving record. ? Must be able to read and write English proficiently in order to maintain safety procedures ? Demonstrate aptitude for job duties. ? Ability to manage time well and the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time. ________________________________________________________________________________________

SECTION D ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties described below are indicative of what the Recreation Coordinator might be asked to perform. Other duties may be assigned. Tasks routinely performed: ? Assists in tracking and documenting the use of the City of Ashland facilities, parks and campground Abide by and communicate City and department policies with staff Position Description Revised: 5/9/24 Sara Hudson Approved by: Human Resources 1/17/2023 ? Schedule work times for limited term employees ? Assist in the preparation of weekly lesson plans for all classes, including individual classes, and drill progression ? Assist in maintaining an evaluation system for gymnasts and prepare progress reports for gymnasts and parents ? Assist in planning and scheduling mini meets and spring shows ? Assist in the creation of the Ashland Parks and Recreation Budget ? Maintain supplies and equipment of the gymnastics area ? Be available to cover the office and handle customer service ? Performs other duties as requested or assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director ________________________________________________________________________________________

SECTION G PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met in order for an individual to successfully fulfill the essential functions of the Recreation Coordinator. Reasonable accommodations may be offered to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise and lighting levels can vary depending on the activity in the facility. Temperatures in the facility usually maintain a comfortable setting. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, and fumes from cleaning materials, and high noise levels. There may be times when activities may be outside with cold, snow, or hot, sunny, rainy conditions. _______________________________________________________________________________________

SECTION H EQUIPMENT OR MACHINERY USE This position may need to operate vacuums, cleaning equipment, shovels, grounds equipment, etc. The Recreation Coordinator frequently uses a computer, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, security system and telephone. _______________________________________________________________________________________

SECTION I WORK SCHEDULE, COMPENSATION, AND BENEFITS

This is a 40-hour non-exempt hourly position and shall include all aspects of the duties outlined in this position description. Days and hours may vary throughout the year depending on needs. The Recreation Coordinator shall be considered a Full-time employee with State of Wisconsin retirement benefits and the option of other City benefits.
