MESH (mental, emotional, social health) Specialist Job Description: This specialist is responsible for supporting the Mental, Emotional, and Social Health (MESH) needs of both campers and staff, with the aim of helping everyone to feel safe, happy, and comfortable at camp. The role will be responsible for identifying campers and staff members with challenges and creating intervention strategies that work to empower and include each participant. This position would be a floating role; working with all groups of youth & young adults to make accommodations to enable a more full participation, growth, and acceptance within the group.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Willingness and ability to work with children & young adults in an outdoor, rustic environment, 6 days a week
• Encourage physical, emotional and spiritual growth, and positive character development in campers & staff members
• Good character, integrity, maturity, sound judgment and adaptability
• Willingness and ability to live within a close, camp community
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience
• Masters education (or progress towards) in social work, therapy, counseling, mental health or equivalent strongly encouraged

Specific Responsibilities:

• Works directly with campers as needed, and assists staff members in working with that camper
• Provides resources, suggestions, and direct support to staff members who are working with campers who need extra attention due to behavior, health (mental and physical), or life circumstance
• Support staff members in their Mental, Emotional, and Social Health (MESH)
• Communicate with parents and guardians to gain tips for working with specific campers and to give updates on the campers' experience
• Communicate with Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director about staff experiences and concerns
• Communicate with Village Coordinators about camper experiences and concerns
• Document all issues related to mental health, self-harm, suicide, and abuse and file reports of suspected child abuse and neglect to Child Protected Services as mandated
• Respond to immediate safety concerns, such as escalated situations, and other camp emergency action plans

This position can be a paid internship in collaboration with your college/university.
