POSITION DESCRIPTION / POSITION TITLE: Frozen Food or Dairy Lead

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Store Director ________________________________________________________________________

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE To plan and manage the Frozen Food and/or Dairy Department so as to promote sales and achieve profit margins and labor goals. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers, and a positive working environment for associates.

NATURE AND SCOPE Emphasis in this position is on ongoing department planning, execution and evaluation in order to ensure maximum sales and profit opportunities, effective cost control, efficient utilization of labor and strong customer service levels. Primary challenge is consistently meeting or exceeding department profit and labor goals. This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for department associates, and requires ability to encourage individual and group effort toward department objectives. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, operation of pallet jack and box cutter and exposure to cold temperatures. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Store Director or person in charge.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS 1. Provides friendly and efficient customer service by demonstrating sincerity, patience and respect in all customer interactions. 2. Throughout the store, greets customers in a genuine and friendly manner. Learns customer names and uses them respectfully in greetings. 3. Assists customers throughout the store by: • Escorting them to products they are looking for • Loading or unloading heavy items and assisting with products that are out of reach • Offering product and/or recipe suggestions and recommendations • Responding to customers’ questions and requests in a timely manner • Treating them as the most important people in the store 4. Sincerely thanks customers for their business and choosing our store. 5. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant working and shopping environment. 6. Develops effective daily/weekly work plan based on weekly sales projections, budgeted labor goals, and previous operating results Frozen Food/Dairy Lead/Page 2 -Analyzes sales and labor projections -Determines work priorities and establishes work lists in order to consistently maintain adequate department conditions -Determines work needs and writes labor schedule in most effective manner to meet these needs -Communicates with Store Director concerning ongoing department status, including successes, problems and planning -Participates in weekly store meetings 7. Implements and maintains coordinated, aggressive and creative merchandising plans using Division guidelines which maximizes sales, variety and gross profit -Consistently monitors mix of demand and profit items, shelf allocation, variety, movement, and stock levels to properly order, merchandise and meet sales and gross profit goals -Collaborates with vendors on approved space allocation, display and deal buying, and follows through on product quality and credits as appropriate -Ensures for proper product quality, presentation and rotation -Assists with production, stocking and display building 8. Supervises Frozen Food and/or Dairy associates to ensure efficient labor utilization and effectiveness in meeting department objectives -Effectively communicates tasks and priorities -Follows up to ensure proper task completion and adheres to store and department policies and procedures -Monitors sales per man-hour and payroll and adjusts labor to production needs -Ensures customers receive prompt and friendly service and assistance at all times 9. Manages Frozen Food and/or Dairy Department receiving, invoicing, pricing, shrink control and inventory to ensure proper product control and that gross profit goals are met -Supervises and assists to ensure accuracy and organization of receiving function -Retails invoices accurately and timely, checks credits and transfer slips for accuracy, and verifies purchase journal -Takes accurate inventory -Reviews gross profit report weekly against receiving records, invoices and other store comparisons -Collaborates with Pricing Department to ensure department pricing and signing is accurately maintained for all items, and monitors price sensitive items in market area weekly -Supervises product handling to control shrinkage and waste 10. Supervises department safety and sanitation programs -Ensures all associates are properly trained in equipment use, maintenance Frozen Food/Dairy Lead/Page 3 and sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related safety rules and procedures -Ensures no one under 18 years of age operates hazardous equipment -Ensures associates use personal protective devices (jacket, thermal gloves, hat) -Conducts department inspections and maintains safety checklist -Checks coolers and freezers for organization and cleanliness 11. Performs Frozen Food and/or Dairy Department personnel functions -Ensures all new associates are properly trained to ensure competence in positions and for possible future development -Conducts and ensures all probationary and regular performance reviews are completed -Provides individual and group guidance and encouragement toward department objectives -Recommends and administers corrective actions as appropriate -Communicates and works with Store Director and Human Resources, as appropriate to above functions Functional Requirements Frequent: Physical - lifting 30 to 60 lbs., carrying 30 to 40 lbs., pushing/ pulling 100 to 2200 lbs., equipment operation (hand jack, powerjack, box cutter), reaching, kneeling, stooping/bending, turning,walking, standing Mental - judgment/decision making, reading, writing, equipment operation (calculator), math, social/verbal interaction Environmental - extended time in cooler (38 degrees) and freezer(-20 degrees) • Occasional: Physical - crawling, walking on uneven ground 12. Follows all store and department policies and procedures 13. Education and/or Experience -High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution) preferred but not required
