TITLE: Bar Supervisor
REPORTS TO: General Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt / Open to both full time and part time applicants.
Oversee and manage all areas of the bar and make final decisions on matters of beverage menus along with FOH consultant
Plan, develop, and establish systems and objectives for the bar and bar staff
Adhere to company standards to increase sales and minimize liquor and labor costs
Expected to work on average 40 hours per week, including 3-4 shifts behind the bar and one day dedicated to administrative work (orders, inventory, training materials, tastings, bar systems)
Member of the management team with authority over hourly staff direct supervisor of bar staff
Trained in the POS system ability to comp, void, and discount guest checks within reason
Expected to be trained as the closing manager, including handling money, running end of day reports, and locking the doors for the night
Works with General Manager to prepare schedules and ensure that the bar is staffed efficiently
Available to fill in for hourly employees and management in case of emergency or illness
Participate in any media opportunities on behalf of Turf Club
Assist in private and other special events working on developing cocktail driven sales packages and programming
Create seasonal cocktail menus, including descriptions for staff
Oversee ordering, receiving, storage, sanitation, and consistent execution of drinks and service
Work with vendors to order all liquor, beer, and spirits
Control and execute monthly inventories by ordering efficiently and staying organized in order to keep Liquor Cost below 25%
Responsible for ordering non-alcoholic beverages, including coffee and tea
Assist in developing and informing staff of menu updates and specials
Conduct staff education of liquor, beer, spirits, coffee, and tea
Train bar staff on Standard Operations policies and procedures
Monitor service and teamwork on a regular basis and counsel employees as needed
Create and execute side-work job descriptions for bar staff to support the cleanliness and other operational functions
Demonstrate ability to relate to, communicate with, and motivate employees to sustain high performance and quality levels
Provide constructive feedback on performance as well as solicitation of input for the operation and well-being of the restaurant
Schedule regular staff trainings, keeping all FOH employees informed and interested in spirits and bar program
Inspect bar area on an on-going basis and takes appropriate steps to ensure facilities meet standards
Ensure that staff demonstrates technical skills
Provide employees with current up-to-date information on wine, beverage and menu offerings
Address customer concerns in a timely manner
Provides new staff with the proper training (Food Service, Beverage Service, Wine Service, Sanitation, etc.) to provide excellent guest experience
Ensure positive guest service in all areas. Relay complaints and financial disputes to GM, taking any and all appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into returning customers
Build customer relationships
Address all staff issues in a timely manner.
Assist GM in hiring, supervision, development, and termination of bar employees
Hold employees accountable for actions, making tough decisions confronting poor performance
Ensures that disciplinary action is taken as required utilizing consistency, fairness and respect within established guide lines
Participate in staff reviews
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
High School Diploma or GED graduate.
Ability to handle stress under pressure.
Ability to accurately exchange currency with the customers
Ability to learn and use Toast to input data
Ability to provide quality guest service.
Willingness to maintain a clean, healthy, and safe working environment.
Ability to coordinate multiple activities with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to freely access all areas of the restaurant including dining room floor, outside cafe, kitchen, prep area, washrooms, etc.
Ability to move quick and carefully in narrow and confined spaces.
Ability to be flexible with job demands and open minded when being asked to complete tasks.
Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the restaurant.
Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant generally weighing 0-50 pounds.
Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.
This position requires employees to work in close quarters with other employees and/or guests which may result in physical, non-sexual contact with other employees and/or guests.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Tasting and smelling abilities are required occasionally to distinguish with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors and/or odors.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and hot liquids. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
