Job Title: Engineering Intern

Reports to: Engineering Co-op/Internship Coordinator

Sumitomo (SHI) Cryogenics of America, Inc. “SCAI”, a leading worldwide provider of innovative cryogenic and vacuum solutions to the medical, semiconductor, and research industries, is looking for an Engineering Intern to work out of our newly refurbished Allentown PA Manufacturing Facility. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience, learn from resident engineering experts and collaborate with teams focused on the latest cryogenic and vacuum technologies.

This is a full-time, temporary non-benefit eligible position expected to last approximately 10-12 weeks for Summer 2024. 

Over the course of 10-12 weeks, you will have the opportunity to:

• Learn about the fascinating world of Cryogenics; learn firsthand how our products are designed and manufactured right here in our Allentown PA headquarters. Gain work experience within a manufacturing facility; network and learn how to collaborate within engineering and cross-functionally. 

• Engage and collaborate with our talented and experienced team on meaningful projects in order to understand processes, build relationships and gain work experience in a high energy, cross-functional team environment. 

• Actively learn about project planning and scheduling, budgeting, communication and organization, testing, and building relationships. 

• Receive mentoring support from working engineers who have “been there done that”. 
• Complete a project from start to finish; at the end of your 12-week internship present a final presentation highlighting your project work and internship experience. 

Qualifications and Requirements

• Full-Time Undergraduate student currently attending a regionally accredited four (4) year college or university majoring in one of following engineering disciplines (Industrial, Materials, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Structural, Industrial Engineering Technical, Industrial Management).

• Strong academic performance (preferred GPA of 3.0 or above)
• Motivation to learn new skills, with passion for engineering and the drive to obtain results

Other Characteristics:

• Able to work full-time (40 hours per week, M-F, 8am-5pm) & onsite for a defined period of 10-12 weeks.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication and active listening skills.

• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. Interest and ability to work both independently and as a team member.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills and attention to detail; demonstrated ability to self-manage multiple projects, prioritize requests, and meet deadlines.
