The University of Connecticut is Hiring an Enterprise Systems Administrator Near Storrs, CT

JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill a full-time position as an Enterprise Systems Administrator (Systems Administrator 2) in the Information Technology Services division. This individual will provide support for the University of Connecticut s Student Administration application. You will be joining a team of experienced IT professionals managing multiple Oracle applications and providing technical services to the University community.

The successful candidate will provide analysis, design, implementation, and production-level services for the delivered Student Administration application, as well as supporting upgrades and security maintenance. The position also requires problem analysis and providing solutions for a variety of issues related to the application. The candidate will need a strong interest in learning and supporting technologies, the ability to work with a large client community, and a high sense of self-motivation, initiative, organization, and follow-through.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide analysis, design, development, and production services while working with colleagues across IT and Functional Areas.
  • Install, patch, and upgrade multi-tier applications using PeopleSoft PUM/DPK framework.
  • Create and maintain project plans and schedules.
  • Independently diagnose and resolve systems problems.
  • Maintain security within the application, the underlying systems, and the forward-facing interfaces.
  • Build and run complex SQL, scripting, and programming tasks.
  • Independent analysis and requirements gathering.
  • Develop technical documentation and communications.
  • Provide training and instruction for user requirements.
  • Work independently, and within a team, while keeping managers informed of progress.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Research and implement new functionality and technologies.
  • Recommend program standards for new technology.
  • Develop a high degree of expertise and advanced knowledge of computer programming technology.
  • May serve as technical project lead and supervise other programmers on the project.
  • Work flexible hours for production moves and occasional maintenance, 5:30 am 7:30 am, and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies, or related field and at least four years of application, and/or server management experience in a LINUX/UNIX environment; OR Associate's degree and six years of experience; OR eight years of experience.
  • Experience with application upgrades.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience writing and executing SQL statements.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Excellent written skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience upgrading PeopleSoft Applications using PUM, DPK, and Change Assistant.
  • Experience with recent versions of PeopleTools and infrastructure (PIA, Tuxedo, etc.).
  • Experience with multi-tier web application server software (i.e. WebLogic or Tomcat).
  • Familiarity with system, application, and network security concepts and practices, including authentication, authorization, and SSL.
  • Experience using Web Services.
  • Experience working with Oracle Database environment.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working in higher education.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time position. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate s background and experience. This position could potentially have a hybrid work schedule, subject to authorization and University Policy. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
