Location: Crosby ISDJob Summary:With minimal supervision and a high level of personal initiative and autonomy, the Crosby ISD Prevention Specialist working the Youthworks program will be responsible for implementation of the “Botvin LifeSkills Training” curriculum with the purpose of precluding the onset of the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and to in general foster the development of social and physical environments that promote healthy and drug-free lifestyles for the primary populations as stipulated under this contract’s funding parameters. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Attend trainings as required for position. Become knowledgeable on subject matter in order to be an ATOD resource on campus for teachers, parents, and other school staff. • Acquire and maintain any licensure/certifications required by funders and BACODA for this position.• Provide curriculum-based prevention education to the appropriate aged youth in schools assigned.• Maintain fidelity of the curriculum design and be responsible for following curriculum guidelines.• Assist supervisor in developing a comprehensive ATOD prevention program for CISD.• Assist other BACODA staff on campus with work related questions and developmental ideas. • Must conduct a minimum of 30 minutes alcohol and other drugs presentation for youth and adults with an educational goal, that is objective specific to prevent or reduce ATOD among the CISD youth and adults.• Must conduct a minimum of 30-minute tobacco presentations for youth and adults with an educational goal, that is objective specific to prevent or reduce tobacco use among the CISD youth and adults. • Must facilitate age-appropriate ATOD prevention alternative activities (minimum 30 minutes in length) that will teach and/or reinforce skills that promote a healthy and substance-free lifestyle that include an educational goal and an objective to prevent or reduce substance use/abuse.• Must facilitate age-appropriate tobacco prevention alternative activities (minimum 30 minutes in length) that will teach and/or reinforce skills that promote a healthy and substance-free lifestyle that include an educational goal and an objective to prevent or reduce substance use/abuse.• Responsible for documentation of activities and meeting key measures.• Responsible for problem identification and referral• Assist in the evaluation and program development.• Responsible for building community awareness and cooperation through presentations, health fairs, and other forms of outreach to parents and school staff• Responsible for advocating for the children/youth in the program.• Responsible for follow-ups with children/youth in the program• Responsible for maintaining a safe environment for yourself and the students. • Proactively responds to support BACODA’s mission and staff to conduct presentations, attending community events, attend meetings and other miscellaneous duties. • Works and meets with supervisor: Informs of activity status and problems, reviews report scheduling, and receives instruction on further department development and problem solving. • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions pertaining to working at BACODA. • In addition to all the above duties, the Prevention Specialist is responsible for carrying out all other work-related duties that may be assigned by supervisor/director or as needed to carry out the mission of the BACODA.Required Skills/Abilities: • Strong oral and written communication skills.• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.• Well organized and able to multitask.• Follow and complete a curriculum series.• Follow through on details necessary to support youth and their families.• Ability to speak effectively before groups of children and adults.• Bilingual candidates a plus. Education and Experience:• MUST complete Associate Prevention Specialist or Certified Prevention Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire.• High School Graduate.• IT experience – comfortable with Excel, Word, PowerPoint.• Prefer some experience in ATOD prevention services.Physical Requirements: • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and car insurance showing a minimum liability limit of $300,000.• Must be able to pass a fingerprint-based Criminal Background Check.• Must be able to pass a pre-hire drug test. • Must be able to lift (up to) 15 pounds at times.
