Brookdale Hospital Medical Center is Hiring a Purchasing Director - Hospital Near Brooklyn, NY

Overview:

Provide leadership and strategic direction to support a service-focused, cost effective, and centralized management for the acquisition and delivery of supplies and services to support patients, clinical staff, and department personnel for Brookdale Hospital Medical Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain a cost-effective, centralized process to procure and deliver medical/surgical, laboratory, other than medical supplies, pharmaceutical products, and other products and services as well as capital procurement throughout the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center.
  • Develop and manage vendor relationships to ensure quality of products, remove costs, improve service and reduce costs from the acquisition process.
  • Work with the Materials Management and Central Supply team to develop cost-effective distribution systems to support specific facilities and the overall Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. Build collaborative relationships with Hospital staff.
  • Manage function within established financial parameters, comply with human resources policies and procedures, meet performance standards, and senior management expectations.
  • Develop policies, procedures and guidelines supportive of a smooth, timely flow of information within the acquisition process for the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center.
  • Negotiate directly with vendors, review contracts, and prepare requests for proposals or information. Also review work of staff regarding negotiations, pricing, etc.
  • Responsible for establishing comprehensive guidelines (Terms and Conditions), policies and procedures in line with stakeholder requirements, including impartiality, clarity and appropriate MWOB considerations.
  • Provides education and support to physicians, administrators, and department heads in developing an understanding of the purchasing systems, related programs, and the relationship with Premier, our Group Purchasing Organization, which support Brookdale Hospital operational and financial goals.
  • Proven leadership and management ability and superb interpersonal skills to effectively form collaborative team relationships with senior administrators, department managers/directors, physicians, vendors, and clinical staff to support Brookdale Hospital acquisition goals.
  • Assure accurate accounting and payment for goods and services,
  • Hire and develop staff to include setting goals, assessing performance and identifying current and ongoing development opportunities for staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years progressive experience in health care purchasing or materials management role.
  • Prior management experience in a large scale integrated delivery network setting preferred with emphasis on large scale vendor negotiation experience.
  • Demonstrated involvement in professional organizations.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Lawson Experience including eProcurement module preferred.
  • Ability to function independently within a broad scope of guidelines and established policies and goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to communicate well at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong drive to create a superior service organization which will ensure quality and commitment to user satisfaction.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills necessary to make sound decisions and recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Familiarity with the basics of contract law and related legal and financial policies.
  • Demonstrated successful contract negotiation skills and ability to apply those skills to establish and administer complex contracts for products and services.
  • In-depth knowledge of the following technologies: Just In Time (JIT) and Stockless Systems (issue in Lowest Unit of Measure), Point of Use Dispensing Systems, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and internet-based procurement transaction processes with exposure to broader issues such as Continuous Replenishment Processes (CRP) or Vendor Managed Inventories (VMI).
  • Computer literacy of Microsoft Office Suite--Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and experience in working with and implementing large-scale automated systems required.
  • Expertise in preparing, importing, and manipulating information in spreadsheets and databases, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations desired.
  • Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

License/Certifications:

  • CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.
