The Team You’ll Work With:

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development and Workforce oversees the City’s housing, economic development, cultural, planning, and workforce agencies, and works to create a more vibrant and equitable New York City. These agencies include but are not limited to the Economic Development Corporation, (EDC), Small Businesses Services (SBS), Cultural Affairs (DCLA), and City Planning (DCP). The Office seeks a talented Policy Advisor who will work closely with the Deputy Chief of Staff to drive an inclusive and aggressive economic recovery in partnership with the Deputy Mayor, team, and relevant agencies and offices across the entire portfolio.

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development and Workforce seeks an entrepreneurial and organized Policy Advisor to provide analytical, operations, and administrative support to the Deputy Mayor and Senior Advisors. The Policy Advisor will conduct qualitative and quantitative research; provide policy analysis on a variety of topics within the portfolio; and assist with project management and coordination of initiatives related to Mayor Adams’ housing and economic development goals. Although the day-to-day work changes based on the needs of the portfolio, specific tasks may include interacting with Senior Advisors to track relevant implementation plans and program needs; reviewing relevant legislation, studies, and reports; sourcing information for external stakeholders and elected officials; producing background and position memos and fact sheets to support executive decision-making; and drafting talking points and public-facing materials.

The Problems You’ll Solve

Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other Senior Advisors, the Policy Advisor will perform the following functions:

  • Research & Analysis – Assist other staff members in performing qualitative and quantitative research in connection with policy proposals, capital projects, land use, legislation, and initiatives. Based on that analysis, this person will make recommendations to relevant staff members.
  • Project Management – In coordination with appropriate City agencies and team members, assist in supporting and monitoring projects, legislation, and policy initiatives to ensure that goals and timelines are met. Coordinate with agencies, boards, commissions, and organizations relevant to economic development and land use as needed.
  • Internal/External Stakeholder Communication – Support interactions with stakeholders to communicate and received feedback on behalf of the Office of the Mayor and the Office of the Deputy Mayor. Create talking points and speeches as needed.
  • General Support – As needed, prepare briefing memoranda, provide background research and information, coordinate meeting planning and assistance, and respond to correspondence from constituents or elected officials.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of work experience in a relevant field (or 1 years with a graduate degree)
  • Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced environment, as well as thrive in a collaborative and supportive team
  • Self-starter who positively contributes to a learning culture and collaborative team and is willing to perform the full range of tasks required in a dynamic and rapidly responsive organization
  • Ability to quickly absorb complex concepts and communicate them in a concise manner
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience working with the agencies in the portfolio a strong plus

Salary

The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is $70,000 Min Salary – $90,000 Max Salary.
