General Purpose

Oversees Adult Basketball games.

Reporting Relationships

Supervision Received: The Basketball Referee works under the direction of the Assistant Parks, Recreation & Trails Director and the Associate Sports Director.

Supervision Exercised: The Basketball Referee provides general supervision and support for the basketball participants.

Essential Functions

• Attends referee clinic.
• Learns the rules of basketball and Moab City Recreation league rules.
• Arrives 10 minutes prior to scheduled game time, dressed and ready to start game.
• Starts all games on time.
• Comes prepared to referee:
  • Wears running/athletic sneakers or cleats.
  • Wears black shorts or athletic pants.
  • Wears referee shirt (provided by Moab City).
• Establishes contact with coaches and players.
• Is consistent, fair and firm in calls made.
• Records all scores accurately and reports results to Assistant Parks, Recreation & Trails Director at end of the day.
• Uses referee call as teaching opportunity if appropriate.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Moderate to loud noise. Physical activity will include sitting, standing, walking, reaching with hands or arms, squatting, talking, or hearing more than 2/3 of the time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Lifting requirements are 20 pounds. The vision requirements are close, distant, color peripheral, depth, and ability to adjust focus.

Selection Guidelines

A formal application is required; finalists will interview with the appropriate hiring authority. Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
