Seasonal Lifeguard

Open until filled.
The City of Deming is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lifeguard for the 2024 summer season at

the Sam Baca Aquatic Center. Starting pay at $13.00/hr.

Under direct supervision, assists the public in the safe use of City swimming pool facilities; performs related

duties as required. Candidates who possess a Red Cross Water Safety Instruction (WSI) certificate will be

required to teach water safety, swimming, and diving classes.

Essential Functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct

of swimming pools patrons; watches activities in the water, on the diving boards, and on swimming pool decks

for individuals who may need assistance or guidance.

• Warns patrons against dangerous practices such as running on the deck and diving into shallow water; instructs

non-swimmers and weak swimmers to stay out of deep water.

• Enters the water to rescue persons in distress; resuscitates rescued swimmers; administers first aid to the injured,

and calls Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on serious accidents cases.

• Under direction, teaches water safety, swimming and diving; assists with other aquatic special events.

• Cleans and maintains the swimming decks and furniture, cleans scum gutters, locker rooms, adjoining facilities,

restrooms, and equipment.

• Vacuums pool during the designated hours.

Applicant should possess:

• A good knowledge of swimming pool operations, safety rules and regulations, rules and regulations relating the

City of Deming Aquatics programs

• CPR, first aid and water rescue methods and procedures

• Some knowledge of general office procedures, as well as the ability to follow oral and written instruction and

communicate effectively verbally and written

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and the public

• Skills in the application of standard approach, rescues and resuscitations techniques.

Minimum Qualification:

• Applicant must be 16 years of age and demonstrate the willingness and ability to learn and perform the duties

of a lifeguard in the City of Deming.

Special Requirements/ Licenses and Certificates

Must possess or obtain a current Lifeguard Training Certificate.

Individuals offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test and background

check.

second review must be received by 11:30 am April 12, 2024.
