Job Description: Youth Programs Coordinator
Hours: Part-time, non exempt. Potential for full-time if supplemented with facilitation.
Reports to: General Manager, National Manager of Climbing Programs
Compensation: DOE
The guiding principle behind every decision we make at the Bouldering Project is this — what can we do to make being at our gyms the best experience possible, for every individual who walks through the door. These individuals are serious climbers, recreational climbers and first-time climbers. They are parents, kiddos, and budding teenagers. They are athletes training for marathons and enthusiasts using climbing to reach health and fitness goals. These individuals are also our staff — an amazing, hard working, devoted, driven, inspired and inspiring group of people.
Youth Programs Coordinator
Our programs embrace the philosophy of growth mindset to develop climbing skills, community, friendship, and character. We do so via a combination of climbing, fun and games, and team-building activities.
The Youth Programs Coordinator develops, directs, and schedules all aspects of youth programming at the Minneapolis Bouldering Project including youth programs and events, summer camps, staffed and unstaffed groups, birthday parties, and school partnerships. They will work closely with the Groups and Birthdays coordinator to schedule those events, follow up with staff, and refine protocol.
In addition to the administrative responsibilities inherent to this role, the Youth Programs Coordinator is expected to facilitate programming to better understand the curriculum, culture, and protocol of MBP programs,
General Responsibilities
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND DIRECTION
Initiate continued development of fun and innovative programming and curricula for children.
Communicate with participants, parents, staff, and instructors to ensure quality programming.
Oversee and supervise Youth Program activities.
Attend session starts, events, and debrief courses with Youth Programs instructors to ensure program quality and support staff development.
Engage in outreach efforts with schools, camps, and other youth-centered organizations to continuously expose new groups of kids to climbing.
PROGRAM MARKETING AND OUTREACH
Collaborate with the General Manager and Community Marketing Manager to align and implement marketing strategies.
Set goals for registration and quality of programming, and strategize ways to reach those goals.
Collaborate with colleagues in building relationships with industry contacts and companies for events and opportunities.
Initiate creative outreach efforts to establish relationships with schools, camps, and youth organizations in our trade area.
STAFF MANAGEMENT
Collaborate with scheduling managers to schedule staff via organized, economical, and efficient staffing systems.
Hire and train youth program staff.
Maintain employee motivation and job satisfaction via dynamic leadership and support.
Communicate with staff to understand availability and share scheduling.
Maintain discipline and professionalism among staff.
Ensure staff quality by participating in assessment and evaluation.
Communicate with managers, coordinators and staff, as needed, to ensure staff quality.
LOGISTICS
Develop and maintain organized, clean, and efficient logistics, registration, and payment systems.
Ensure that facilities and equipment remain clean, functioning, and high quality.
Introduce and maintain staff support tools.
COLLABORATION
Collaborate with the Birthday & Group Coordinator, Adult Program coordinator and Head Coach to build cohesive and comprehensive programming.
Work with the management team on decisions that impact the staff, community and gym.
Work with each department to support each other and create the best experience for all users.
Work with the Head Setter to maintain appropriate climbing in our dedicated youth climbing areas.
RISK MANAGEMENT
Serve as staff lead (with General Manager and key staff) to support Risk Management in Youth Programs.
Support incident reporting and reviews, safety reviews, emergency scenarios, and policy-writing.
Act as Incident leader in an emergency.
Ensure all programs have sufficient emergency support through systems and notification sequences.
OTHER DUTIES
Occasionally serve as Operations Specialist, Coach, Programs Staff, or other roles as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
It is imperative to maintain excitement about the culture and community of Youth at the Minneapolis Bouldering Project. The Program Coordinator is at the forefront of this aspect of the gym. Program Coordinators lead the staff in supporting the Minneapolis Bouldering Project community and must conduct themselves accordingly.
Working Conditions
Many duties require the availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and events, including possible evenings and weekends. Duties often occur before and after regular business hours.
