GEORGETOWN SCOTT COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION

POSITION TITLE: Marketing/Graphic Design Specialist (Part-Time)

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: NON-EXEMPT

GRADE: N/A

HOURLY RATE: $12.78 - $15.78

DEPARTMENT: Marketing

CHARACTERISTICS OF POSITION: Increase the publics awareness of Georgetown Scott County Parks and Recreation special events, recreation programs, parks, and facilities by researching and writing content for press releases, the website, social media, and collateral material. The marketing specialist also will work closely with local media and community agencies for program promotions, as well as the in-house graphic designer under the guidance of the Marketing and Special Events Manager. This position is subject to pre-employment criminal background processing.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential:Collaborate with the Marketing and Special Events Manager to establish collateral material guidelines and style guides consistent with branding of the department.Create basic layouts/design templates for postcards, posters, brochures, flyers, reports, and other materials based on established branding for Georgetown Scott County Parks and Recreation marketing initiatives.Photograph and videography of classes, camps, parks and special events as needed. Discussing strategies for increasing visibility, enrollment, program, and event attendance as part of an immediate and long-term plan as it pertains to graphic design.Create original designs and graphics for communications campaigns. Create digital designs and graphics for social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and web use. Establish format for photo, video, and image library and maintain as needed.Assist with print production (set up files, archive, etc.) Participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions for upcoming communications campaigns. Provide communications-related administrative support as needed.Maintains all certifications required.Work any/all special events deemed necessary by immediate supervisor. Perform the job in a safe manner and in compliance with department policies, procedures, work and safety rules and the employee handbook.

Non-Essential: Perform other duties deemed necessary by immediate supervisor, Parks and Recreation Director and/or Parks and Recreation Assistant Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, Experience:Minimum Completion of 11th grade. Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be certified in First Aid and CPR certified.Experience in graphic design, marketing, public relations or related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a keen eye to detail and the ability to manage multiple jobs with tight deadlines is essential. Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premier Pro) and Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, PowerPoint) is required. A fundamental understanding of typography, photography and layout for print and web is strongly recommended.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge: Knowledge of Joomla, Google AdWords, video/photography and social media management (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) is a plus. This position is subject to pre-employment criminal background processing. Develop marketing materials, including print and web content.

Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Abilities:A keen eye to detail and the ability to manage multiple jobs with tight deadlines is essential.

SPECIAL ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Instructions: Must be able to work within established timelines with minimal instructions daily.

Processes: Must be able to create print and digital marketing with minimal instructions.

Review of Work: Work is reviewed before production by Marketing and Special Events Manager, appropriate Recreation Manager and Assistant Manager.

Analytical Requirements: Decisions based on design and application of department graphics standards.

Work Environment: Inside and outside

Availability: Must be able to work a flexible schedule that would include working days, nights, and weekends. Must be able to work irregular hours on a regular basis

Physical Demands:

Lifting: Some required (up to 50 lbs.). Requires standing, walking, and sitting.

Use of Equipment: Tools, equipment, and other related items pertaining to media, recreation programs, maintenance, as well a normal office equipment.

Vehicle Operation: Automobile when needed
