Charles E Smith Jewish Day School Of Greater... is Hiring an Early Childhood (Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten) Judaic Studies Teacher Near Rockville, MD

The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, a pluralistic community Jewish day school, seeks qualified candidates to fill potential openings for the position of Early Childhood Judaic Studies Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year.

This position will require instruction in Judaic language arts and various other disciplines of Jewish learning and teaching and will require an individual who demonstrates a passion for education and a palpable love for and warmth with children while instructing students in the Judaic Studies curricular areas of Hebrew language, Torah, Hagim/Jewish Festivals, and T’filah/Prayer.

Candidates will possess the following skills in and dispositions toward education:

  • a “whole-child” approach to teaching and learning that focuses on growth in academic, social-emotional, physical, and spiritual domains

  • a progressive approach to education that includes expertise in differentiation of instruction for enriched, grade level, and supported students

  • skills to create a joyful, interactive, and engaging learning environment

  • comfort with proactive parent collaboration

  • experience with teaching through digital platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, Schoology, SeeSaw, etc.) and integrating technology into typical classroom teaching practice

  • interest in partnering with colleagues within and across subject disciplines to plan and develop curriculum

  • a commitment to fostering an inclusive and communal learning environment

  • openness to professional reflection and feedback

  • demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ)

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or 90-hour MSDE course for Junior K candidates) or a related field required with a Master’s degree preferred and a minimum of 1-3 years of successful, formal lead-teaching experience in a public or independent school. Candidates need to be Hebrew native speakers or have command of the Hebrew language at a native speaker level.

Work Environment:

  • Faculty may be asked to perform their work responsibilities on campus and/or at home. In both settings, the teacher is required to maintain a professional environment.

  • While on campus, classes may be operating either in person or in an alternative setting. Teachers are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day (contracted hours), regardless of the setting.
