Young Men's Christian Association of Central... is Hiring an Aquatics Coordinator I Near Farmville, VA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Executive Director and/or Director of Aquatics, Aquatics Coordinator I responsibilities will include supervision of part-time lifeguards, safety, training and managing the aquatics center. Must be able to professionally explain and enforce rules and policies to members, participants, and staff. Works with the Executive Director and to grow and improve aquatics programming. Develops relationships with members and participants by encouraging the use of aquatics programs to promote health and wellness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Aquatics Coordinator I will be responsible for the following in collaboration with the Executive Director

1. Assist and administer total operation of the Aquatics Department including the interpretation and execution of established policies, the development of procedures and methods, staffing, evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs and operation.

2. Plan and conduct a wide variety of aquatic activities.

3. Ensure the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.

4. Assist with weekly silhouette drills.

5. Attend all necessary trainings in order to keep YMCA certifications current and active.

6. Ensure all aquatic staff are in compliance with YMCA certifications as required by YUSA.

7. Know, understand, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.

8. Collects and schedules Lifeguard and pool schedules with the assistance of the Aquatics Director and branch Executive Director.

9. Hold in-service training in-services with aquatic staff as requested by branch leadership.

10. Coordinate the Association aquatic trainings including CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen and Lifeguards.

11. Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.

12. Participate in Annual Campaign efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 21 years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current YMCA lifeguard certification or American Red cross lifeguard
  • Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen certifications
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a certified lifeguard
  • Proficient in swimming and safety skills
  • Must demonstrate qualities of a leader and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly to an emergence.
  • Knowledge of computer and associated skills
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child abuse prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, and bloodborne pathogens training.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Safety First! Must know how to report and respond to abuse. Follow all safety policies and procedures.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
  • Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function.
