Horry County Disabilities & Special Needs is Hiring an Executive Director Position Near Conway, SC

Ability Beyond Barriers is a nonprofit organization providing services and support to individuals with intellectual and related disabilities, head and spinal cord injuries, and autism in Horry and surrounding counties. We work collaboratively within our community to develop a comprehensive network to enhance the lives of the people we serve.

Who you are:

A proven and passionate leader, committed to serving our individuals and families, and the organization. You will provide leadership in all aspects of the organization’s operations. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and will ensure the execution and success of the programs, initiatives, goals, and operations to meet the needs of the individuals and families we serve in the community. The Executive Director will work to build relationships to support the mission, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, and conducting related administrative tasks.

Examples of work performed:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to identify, create, and implement strategic plans to promote the organization’s mission and objectives.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and develop an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate managers who can lead critical departments and manage strategic business functions.
  • Monitor organization operations and ensure employees and business practices comply with the organization’s long-term plans, regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Develop the organizational culture and promote transparency and collaboration throughout the organization.
  • Develop partnerships with stakeholders, local and state governments, industry regulators, and other relevant organizations impacting services provided.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities within the organization and its environment to protect business interests.
  • Devise remedial actions for identified issues and conduct crisis management when necessary.
  • Identify potential sources of income and organize fundraising efforts.
  • Represent the organization at social and corporate events in ways that strengthen the organization’s brand and communicate its message.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of intellectual and related disabilities, head and spinal cord injuries, and autism; their development, and normalization.
  • Proven experience as Executive Director, or in other managerial positions.
  • Knowledge of personnel management and best practices.
  • General knowledge of finance accountability and measures of performance.
  • Outstanding organization and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Masters of Public Administration, or Masters of Human Services degree preferred, with three to five years’ supervisory/management experience, and five-years’ experience working with the intellectually disabled.
  • Or a four-year degree from an accredited college or university in a public administration, human services, or related field, with three to five years’ supervisory/management experience, and five-years’ experience working with the intellectually disabled.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range:

$100,000 to $120,000 commensurate with work experience.

Benefits:

    • The Executive Director is entitled to the organization’s benefits package to include accrual of Annual Leave, Sick Leave, and paid Holidays after his/her 31st days of full-time employment, as set forth in Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.

    • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance coverage is available through the South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority, should the Executive Director decide to participate. Coverages offered are for Employee Only, Employee and Spouse, Employee and Children, and Employee and Family. A list of premiums is available through Human Resources.

    • The Executive Director is required to participate in the South Carolina Retirement Systems Pension Program. The current percentage contribution is 9% per pay period. The South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority also offers 401k plans, however there is no employer match.
