GENERAL FUNCTION:
· Provides direct leaderships, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes. Acts as a liaison and champion for YMCA Programs.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum age of 15.
· Be available days, evenings, and weekends to help with swim programs.
· Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills.
· Proficient swim class management skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
· Prepare swim lessons plans for assigned classes.
· Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
· Encourage parent involvement and identify potential volunteers.
· Maintain records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
· Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
· Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
· Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
· Organize and put away needed class equipment. Report damaged equipment.
· Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Ability to instruct and identify proper stroke techniques.
· Ability to lift 40 pounds.
